Wonder if any of you guys have come across UnltdWorld? www.unltdworld.com Signed up to today just because I was interested in the design, and it looks really awesome. I think it's based on Elgg (from what I gather from the designer), but it just looks so inviting. What do you all think?
I think its average. If you want to see some really inspiring design have a look at http://www.unmatchedstyle.com/ or http://www.webdesignerwall.com/trends/best-of-css-design-2007/
Hi, From the tour, the design seems nice. Since, registration is still by invitation only, I am guessing they are running into implementation. Good be all sorts of porblems: 1) stability 2) performance/scaling 3) spam etc. It's a nice project to watch though. Most of the social networking scripts aren't really ready for prime time, so if this one works out, it may be an indication of a maturing script. On the otherhand, who knows how much effort they had to put in so far, to get this one rolling. Rich
Rich, I put my email in for invitiation about 3 days ago, and was accepted today. It's a really nice platform, it all just seems really inviting. I could certainly see that with some marketing it could be a big success.
From the tour it looks kind of like a facebook clone. But the design is better than a lot of social networking sites I've seen.
Hi Ian, Thanks for the info. I will wait to check it out. I have been thinking of something similar for links.com, so it should be interesting. So far, all of the scripts I looked at are pretty poor. Do you have any idea how much custom went into this, and who did the work? Thanks. Rich
Ah, it's Rich from links.com! I remember talking to you about the thread on your domain How's it going? As for costs, he was very reluctant to say. It was build by two guys, Dave and Ben. I believe that particular platform is called SeaRunner, but it's all very hush hush by the sounds of it. Those two guys were the founders of Elgg, I THINK. Regardless, I asked for a quote on a website, and he said UnltdWorld was his last client. So I'm afraid I can't help you any more there.
Hi there Ian, Yes, I now remember talking things over with you. Thanks for the info. Looks like they are preparing for a launch. I will be interested in seeing what traffic they build and what issues they run into. The biggest issue I have with social networking, is that as it grows, it needs more policing. Heck, MySpace is facing all kinds of legal issues right now, and is spending tons to clean up the place and keep it clean. But a niche site might work. I'll be watching closely. Rich
Legal issues could well cause a problem, which is, probably, why they will just stay fairly small. The launce I believe in the February 2nd.
