I had some key search terms rank above IBM for an IBM product line within in days of a page's creation a few months back. Now that page is 53 in MSN search results. The content is updated regularily and has good SEO. What can be done to keep that initial high rank?
tbarr60 I have had the same experience - almost immediately my new sites rank very, very high (like top 3) for targeted keyword/phrase then after a short time (1-2 weeks) they slide way back or completely disappear. I would also like to know how to keep that initial high rank in MSN...
Same here, I published a new site begin july this year and it was a come and go in MSN. My site is now 6 months old and ranking number one for my best keyword about 4 weeks now in MSN. Two days ago I lost my number one position and today I'm on the fifth place for this keyword. It looks like I'm sliding back again.
I think another update or something is going on. I am experiencing a hugh down the past 2-3 days. Anyone else?
Link popularity is the cornerstone in the ranking methods of all of the major search engines - Google, Yahoo and MSN Unlike google MSN loves meta tags and "requires" robots.txt. hoo Yahoo search listings are based on your contents and don't worry about your link popularity. Google simply loves backlinks related to the content of your website
MSN has this type of procedure that it ranks new sites really high and drops them from time to time. that's as if you are first trusted as a new business and then you have to prove your trustworthiness more and more to keep the position. It's like a test, unlike the probation period assumed for google.
somehow it is true but i dont know if its the way msn work out their search results. My new sites usually get to the front page for a few weeks and suddenly it just disappear from the front page. It will then be back to top ranking when i start updating my site with fresh content again.
hmm ... from my observation and others' experience, msn like more SEO-ed page (higher KW density bla bla), keyword in the URL, and most importantly backlinks. just MHO
I think so too. Obviously MSN loves contents as well so as soon you hire a writer or you write articles for yourself, your position is regained quite fast!
I think site wide links may initially give a huge boost in MSN, all the links counting as separate. Then they start to slowly discount the value of some of the links. Just a theory. I've had sites that do the same, right up to #1, then down 15-20 spots.
It seemed like MSN liked my sites better with daily content, and when I put in a blog link on MY Yahoo, MSN paid more attention. However, it appeared that Google didn't care about daily content and I wondered if Google de-listed me because of the blog connections. Any thoughts on that?
