Avoid piracy - php licence?

    I have a question of how to avoid piracy of a script on the best way. Let's say I want the whole sourcecode to not be encoded but want some kind of protection so if the user doensn't have a unique license, the script shoulndn't work. If they have a license, the script should work as it should do.

    How could this be done?

    I'd like to hear from you how most people do this:)
