Yes that's what I said, google in indexing thousands of those pages, but they don't rank for non penalized sites from what I see, so the issue is with indexing them not with duplicate filter as those pages are devalued for non penalized sites.

It's likely the penalized sites have been relegated to the supplemental index.

I think it should be pointed out that aviva has not been hijacked in kind of fashion, so the title of this thread is inaccurate. A true hijacking would be if you went to www.avivadirectory.com and instead of seeing the directory you saw a picture a guy bent over with his pants down with text at the bottom that says "you got $%^&".

Anyone think this is what has caused all our web directories to drop?

Do you think we got personally penalised? Funny how we are all DP members isn't it. I searched for zorg links, and i found a proxy where my site was indexed. I'm going to implement those tricks to prevent being indexed by any robots other than the main search engines. Will post back in a few days to let you know if it worked.

Of course, everyone that has been canned is active on DP. Or rather their directories are actively being promoted on DP. It's also no coincidence that Danny Sullivan pointed out the DP forums in a comment on sphinn.
You guys have to look at this section and see that this is where people make money trying to manipulate Google results.
Google wants us to work on our sites rather than promoting them non stop.

Seriously, as the owner of a canned directory I'm not happy, but then again, can this surprise you?

No. The drop in the serps caused those proxies pages to appear high.

Perfect example of "Google Does deliver"

Even if aviva dont rank on top, the "aviva" searcher reaches finally to www.avivadirectory.com :D

Read the link to that article that was posted. The indexing of these proxies may have caused our sites to drop.

The site has hijacked Aviva's ranking on Google, I think you are talking about 302 hijacks, the site has stolen Aviva's content and then stolen the no.1 rank on Google, I would class that as a hijacking (besides I put a ? in the title anyway).

Mikey, our directories all have loads of links, there is no way that something like this could have happened whilst the directories were not penalized and there is no way it could have caused the directories to get penalized, the owner of the spam site has seen an opportunity to rank for a popular phrase and get some traffic and taken it.

did you read that article where an established site was being penalised like we have for duplicate content - purely as a proxy had indexed it?

Just another theory...Someone on DP could have easily set all this up. Dont you think its funny how some directories that did buy text links like we did that dont post on DP didnt get penalised?

he should stick up some nice Adsense Units and Aff Links and what not.. :)

That is similar a proxy site, like the PKBLOGs which came up when Indian Govt Blocked some blogs sometime.... These sites fetch blogs dynamically, but i guess the pages are chahed as is.,. with the URL

That's correct. DP became a haven for spammers, scammers, and link manipulators. It has nothing to do with Danny Sullivan. You guys made it easy for Google.

How many times did I point this before the crash, suggesting that various posters just save Google the trouble and report themselves? The Google gaming was so bloody blatant no one could miss it - and Google didn't.

Minstrel your comment is totally off topic, you are the biggest Muppet on Digital Point out of 100,000 members, why don't you do us all a favour and just not post here any more, nobody likes you or your crappy comments apart from a few newbs who don't know any better.

I'm still unclear on how a proxy site can hijack another site
