Aviva and Alive still have my respect For a long time now the big word of PR and penalisation has been on the lips of many webmasters. Everbody has watched closely the developments of Google and scrutinised its every move. We take a look at Aviva and Alive directories and the one thing that remains true is that even after the PR drop they have received from the BIG G they are still formidable directories to be reckoned with. Lets start with the traffic they get. This remains high, recognisable and consitent. It may be fact that traffic at their sites may have dip a little but I emphasise the words "a little". Show me how many directories out there get this amount of traffic. They still lead the way in every sense of the word "lead". The resources they have in their directories and their knowledge will always bring high traffic to their directories and help other directory owners along the way. A few years ago we listed on Aviva Directory when it wasn't at the prices they are today. Up until a few months ago we were still listed for UK One Way Links Directory then Aviva removed it. I emailed Aviva and asked why and they replied that their guidelines had changed and that we'd be getting a refund. Now, although I think a better reason could have been given I didn't stew on this too long. I took a long hard look at my directory and bettered it. I took examples from Aviva Directory itself and even today today we are looking for ways to yet develop our directory / directories further. A campaign soon beginning to drive directory submissions. With the above in mind, I like what these directories have achieved over the years. In my mind they stil remain formidable with huge knowledge and expertise in the directory market and many a webmaster would do well to recognise this.
They were the 'goal' (if you will) that many set out to either be like or be better than. Never forget
Most definately. They achieved a pretty high rank in the directory arena and are directories which people look up to. I guess in a few years, they'll re-emerge and then be stronger then ever cause they got so much reputation built and put into their names. So wish them all the best.
Whilst Alive and Aviva may have had some pagerank taken away it is now safe to say that after taking a long good look at directories from different countries that the directory sector has somewhat been penalised by Google. Why will always remain a mystery where Google is concerned. Fortunately for us, our site at UK One Way Links got an increase from PR3 to PR4 on the homepage. However, some of the inner pages lost PR! The most popular UK Directories also got hit for pratically doing nothing. Splut.com was PR6, now PR3 Dot UK Directory was PR5, now PR3 It is never the less intriguing to find out why Google wants to act this way to directories. Aviva and Alive will however remain active and we should watch what steps they take now.
I think what MeetHere is trying to say is you only need look at their achievements over the years to see what they have really achieved. The resources they have on their sites helps many webmasters and by being the guide for small directory owners, if you can receive half the traffic and paid submissions they get you would be well on your way to successful directory. These directories are known the world over, they are out there and can be seen almost everywhere.
I really respect Chris a lot & the way he promotes all his sites. They are really role-models for all the directory owners.
Agreed! I will continue to recommend these directories and spread the word. The one truth regardless of exterior events is and remains quality.
I respect both directories very much and they will always have a place in my heart (how romantic ). As i said they are great dirs for me and i like avivas design.
