    Helo and thanks in advance:

I have taken a bunch of short avi movies with my digital camera and I want to make 1 (longer) to watch on my PC/Share. No DVD burning.

    What software should I use?

    Thanks/Regards

Windows movie maker does not make avi movies. It uses it's own extension. Something like wm something.

I need to make a movie that has a .avi extension.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks/Regards

If you just want to watch it on your PC there's nothing wrong with windows media video as a format.

Thanks for your time. I really appreciate that.

Looks like to me settings to burn a DVD movie which is not what I need.

I have tried again to use windows movie maker and it doesn't ask me what setting I want to use. It just saves it in his format.

    Not an option.

Other than Windows movie maker (which I cannot/ do not want to use) do you know any other software package?

I searched in Google and I was horrified to see that nothing came up!

Virtualdub will do the trick...but there's a little bit of a learning curve.

Why do you want to make a AVI? For sharing, AVI is probably not the best format.

Better to combine the AVIs in Movie Maker (or any other video editing software) and then export to MPEG 4 or Windows Media 9.

Btw, the screenshot Chaslaser posted is correct, DV-AVI is Digital Video AVI, it has nothing to do with DVDs. DVDs use MPEG2 video.

    Try to use VideoCharge.

Simple and easy join all AVI file to single file in any output video format!
