I'm finding that G will spider my sites really quickly and the homepage will be cached within a couple of days , However the rest of the content can take long time to be cached, Initially I thought it was something I was doing wrong , but a quick check of msn invariable shows all the site cached with about 5 days.

My site was indexed by Googlebot on Sunday. As at Thursday there's still no sign of the cache being updated.

For once I agree, I think something must be going on with Google, I mean.. 2 months now and my site has been spidered 500 times, yet no page turned into a database entry in Google, MSN has indexed every single page! I get 100% of my Search engine hits from MSN and Google is not keeping up to date with newish sites.

I had a similar probelm it turned out that the site had been previously banned, I had to provide G with the whois info and prove that the site had no connection to the previous owners.

ahh sorry i though you meant you have no pages indexed.

it is strange though, one of my old sites that has sat dormant for years but has recently had loads of content added to it is getting pages indexed by the dozen everyday but my 2 new sites are just sitting with the home page indexed.

Fascinating. Google unbanned my main site on Tuesday, there was almost no activity on Wednesday, but today the Googlebot is just going to town on the site. And it's going to get it's fill, too, cause that baby's gigantic! At the speed it's currently going (about a page every minute), Google will have my entire main site in 6.25 days. :D

Submit a sitemap and get good backlinks. That's basically the only way I know of to increase Googlebot's presence.

Also - if you just type in your URL in Google... I.e. "www.mysite.com" in the search box, if it comes up with your site as a result, you're indexed.

Along the same lines - does anyone have data (I know it will vary) of average times between getting indexed and then getting ranked in the top couple of hundred? I suppose it depends on keywords as well. I got indexed within 4-5 weeks on a lot of my new sites, but haven't been seen in the top 1000 results at all. Maybe it's just time to recheck my SEO work on the sites?

    Any thoughts?

    *sigh*

Well deserved, but I'll take that.

Most of the sites I've worked with have been around for longer periods of time before I get to them. I haven't worked with many brand new sites.

    Oh well - thanks anyway.

    Oh, I see.

Yes, it depends on the competiveness of the keyword. You have to check the number of pages in the serp, the number of backlinks of the top sites, the anchor text being used...

Regarding new sites, I find that getting links from other sites frequently visited by G causes the new site to get listed much quicker. Often in 1-4 days. Of course, the more I get pointing to the site the faster it rises in the SERPs. :)
