Long time listener, first time caller...

I've analyzed my website with google's free tools to find out what it thinks my keywords are, and then fed those keywords through their adwords "Here's what you can expect to pay for an ad for this keyword" tool.

Now, if what Google says is true, and that you really only display the highest paying ads for your keyword at that given moment, I should be averaging $.50 per click, on the low side.

I've been doing some really simplistic keyword additions throughout my site, and I've seem small improvements, but here's how it breaks down:

    All-Time Average: $.247/click
    May: $.284/click
    Last 7 Days: $.324/click
    Yesterday: $.352/click
    Today: $.225/click

Today was a crappy day, but not too far off the average. It seems weird that my average would be half of what Google thinks I should be getting for the keywords it found...

Anyhow, I thought you guys might be interested in this data. I'd be interested in seeing what others are getting, but don't give me any bogus "I make $50 per click, I'm an Internet Superstar!" crap, because that seems to be happening too often around here.

I had it all figured out yesterday... Found a proper way to implement my high-paying keywords, and what do you know?

    $.76/click average

    Then today rolls around....

    $.126/click average.

Oh well... ya win some, ya lose some.

Wanna know why? Google "steals" around 50% of the clicks for themselves.. They only share what's left of the click with you the publisher.. That's why you only get lower payments..

Wow. The above post was the absolute ignorant and sillyest post i've seen on DP in a while. Google doesn't "steal" 50% of the click for themselves, It's called their commission. Googles the one that GETS the advertisers, Provides support for them, Maintains the thousands of servers required for adsense to run smoothly, and pays for the engineers to keep developing new features for adsense, it only makes sense that they keep some of the revenue for themselves, after all, they're in the business of making money.
