Most people would probably say there is no debate at all, just get an account with aweber and you're in business. The majority of e-mail I get from the IM crowd uses aweber, and that should speak for itself. With a zillion other issues to deal with I should just use aweber and attend to other aspects of marketing my sites, right? But there is one thing that bothers me about using aweber (or another third-party autoresponder service): I use Thunderbird as an e-mail client on all of my Windows and LINUX workstations. When I respond to a link within a message delivered by awber Thunderbird pops up a warning box saying "Thunderbird thinks that this message may be a scam" and asks if I really want to reply to it. Obviously Thunderbird is seeing mail from aweber as a scam. probably as it seems to be spoofing an email address. I know who the mailing is from and click on it anyway without issue. But it occurs to me that a LOT of people might be frightened off from responding to a message that caused this warning from their e-mail client. So I've been giving a lot of thought to setting up my own autoresponder, I've played with a couple of open-source scripts and found a few that work well and are easy to setup. My test messages look professional and don't trigger any Thunderbird warnings. And of course there is a small cost savings, but that's really a secondary consideration (I think reliability is far more important). But I also realize that there are a lot of other factors to consider, and I don't want to make the wrong choice for this very important marketing element. Does anyone else use their own autoresponder? Any reason why this might be a foolish thing to do? Thanks to all who reply.
