If a people who so recently experienced such unspeakable inhumanities cannot understand the injustice and suffering its territorial ambitions are inflicting, what hope is there for the rest of us?

A million and a half civilians have been forced to live in an open-air prison in inhuman conditions for over three years now, but unlike the Hitler years, they are not Jews but Palestinians. Their jailers, incredibly, are survivors of the Holocaust, or their descendants. Of course, the inmates of Gaza are not destined for gas chambers, as the Jews were, but they have been reduced to a debased and hopeless existence.

Fully 80% of Gaza’s population lives on the edge of malnutrition, depending on international charities for their daily nourishment. According to the UN and World Health authorities, Gaza’s children suffer from dramatically increased morbidity that will affect and shorten the lives of many of them. This obscenity is a consequence of a deliberate and carefully calculated Israeli policy aimed at de-developing Gaza by destroying not only its economy but its physical and social infrastructure while sealing it hermitically from the outside world.

Particularly appalling is that this policy has been the source of amusement for some Israeli leaders, who according to Israeli press reports have jokingly described it as “putting Palestinians on a diet.” That, too, is reminiscent of the Hitler years, when Jewish suffering amused the Nazis.

This is US standard operating procedure in enforcement of its policies on the high seas(International Waters). The HITS squad deals primarily with stopping suspected drug traffickers, but we also deal with other such violators of OUR policies in international waters such as long line fisherman, pirates, and those engaged in human trafficking. In the waters between Russia and Alaska alone, we stop and board by force more than 3000 vessels a year.

When you are in international waters and the US Coast Guard pulls up beside you asking you to stop, it isn't a request, it is an order. If you fail to stop your boat will be disabled(if possible) by heavy weapons. You can COUNT on being boarded. If you meet the people boarding with the use of force, you can COUNT on a response which will include the use of deadly force. The M240 machine gun creates a lot of dead bodies very quickly on a crowded deck. Those who survive such an encounter WILL be arrested and tried in a US court on felony charges carrying a 10 year sentence. Those who actually injure one of the arresting officers will face additional more serious charges, with additional jail time attached.

This is what we do daily. Thousands upon thousands of vessels being stopped, boarded, searched, and sometimes impounded. Why would we expect Israel, our strongest ally in the middle east to do anything less in the enforcement of their laws.

Exactly, this was a provocation, nothing more. Not humanitarian in the least, simply a way of getting the usual suspects to condemn Israel and like the useful idiots they are, they complied. Next time a ship refuses them permission to board, they should sink the damn thing and keep the members of the IDF safe.
