Automatically split test ads in AdWords

    Hi guys,

Does anyone know a tool that would allow you to automatically split test ads in AdWords? I have 17 PPC client campaigns and each one has close to 100 ad groups. Split testing ads in them manually using something like splittester.com is a nightmare. This would save me a ton of time.

    Thanks in advance,
    Dave

    You can try this:
Campaign => Settings => Advanced Settings => Add delivery, frequency capping => Optimise: Display better performing ads more often

I think it's pretty self-explanatory. With this option the Adwords system will automatically choose the ad which gets more click more often.
At which point you can choose to pause the ad which doesn't perform as well so that the better one gets more impressions

Ian, I don't think that's what Dave is talking about.

What you want to do is download Adwords data and run the same routine that splittester does. Most people would use a spreadsheet such as Excel to do this. Actually, you don't even need to do that. Once you get 30 or so clicks from each ad, you will be very confident that the higher CTR ad is your winner.

    Hi Dave,

I use adtestmagic.com for this. I also used to use winneralert.com, but adtestmagic is free so it's a no brainer :).

Exactly, in essence Google is actually doing the split test for you.

adtestmagic actually does fairly simple statistical analysis. Like I said, you could eyeball it in your account or run your own program in a database app or even Excel.
