Automatically Rotating Image and Text

    Hello,

I'd like to highlight certain areas of my site on the front page, but on a rotating basis. It'll be a title, image to the left, and a blurb of text to the right and it will all be kept together in an include file on a .php page.

So I guess I want to be able to bring in different include files and put it on some kind of timer so it automatically rotates every week? I doubt this forum is the correct place to ask this question but I'm not sure what would be used to accomplish this or if it's even possible.

    Any help appreciated! Thanks!
    Kirsty

Can you be a bit more specific! are you just looking at rotating images? this can be done with flash or javascript. They can work by selecting random images from a folder at regular intervals or just a set routine

not sure what you mean about a blurb of text?

Ok well I'm going to build a city guide and part of that is a guide for different suburbs. I'll probably end up having about 20 suburb guides and they'll all be accessible from their own page but I'll like to have a sort of "Spotlight on: Whichever Area" on the front page. It'll look sort of like this:

    Spotlight On:
IMAGE Area Name (this will be a link)
IMAGE Blurb of text with a short
IMAGE description of the area blah

Does that make things clearer? Then I'll want to have different areas displayed week after week without having to pysically go and change my main page every time. So rather than just rotating a single image, everything should be rotated together, the hyperlink title, image, and blurb about the suburb.

    Hi Kirsty

ok i understand, we did the same thing at www(.)australiatravelmarket(.)co(.)uk take a look at the on the left navigation. it is CMS driven.

You can modify a banner Ad script to do this as it will have functions such as number of impressions and date related display. So you will be able to schedule what is to appear

    hope that helps.

    Nick :)

Thanks Nick, good to know it's possible but does anyone have any advice about how to do it? I don't think I'd have any hope finding an ad rotating script, let alone altering one so if anyone has any suggestions or can point me to a site tha tmight help I'd appreciate it!

    Cheers,
    Kirsty

I would suggest paying someone to build one if you dont have the knowledge. That way you will get exactely what you want.

A simple version would contain something like:

    Upload Image:
    Short Text:
    Long Text:
    URL:
    Start Date:
    Finish Date:

    Edit | Delete function
    Page Block

I could not see that costing more that about $15 - $30 for someone to make
