Automated directory submissions

I've seen things for automated directory submissions, and even manual submissions. I am unsure of their value though. Most (all?) directories are set up into categories. When I use such things as an automated system, is my site being sent to the correct categories, or is it just submitted to the top, and then ignored? I mean, most editors I'm sure are unwilling to move that many sites (assuming such services are used a lot).

Should I skip all of those offers and just do it manually?

Does anyone have experience with such things, and if so, anyone willing to share?

If they are sent to the wrong categories, then the links are unrelated right... So is using automated submissions an effective means of getting relevant backlinks?

    Thanks,
    Q

I'm not talking about any specific tool, rather automated submissions in general. You can get a few thousand hits in google for "automated directory submissions" or similar keywords. Though, my questions sill pretty much apply to manual services. Like, if I sign up for such services, will my automotive site be submitted to a wedding directory?

Manual submision is more quality then auto.

ok I did it I payed someone here on teh forums to auto submit to 150 dirs for $10. Seems pretty good was getting confirm addresses all day. about half required me to click on an auto responder link to verify... that took a while but was well worth it. Im sure dl-ing and installing software and configing it would have taken longer, so all in all a good deal.

If you are SEO You will know why I choose manual than automated. In manual submissions you can check how quality your directory are and you can choose a free one way submissions which really important.
