Hi, I need to know if this is allowed/legal or if I could get into trouble. Basically, I have an autoblog (just setting it up). I've put in a few RSS feeds from various UK news/paper websites for technology... my blog has then posted these articles (in full) from the original site. At the end of the article is a link to the original site, (eg. Posted from: www.site.com). Is this OK? Or is it not allowed? Can the sites request that I take them down, or threaten legal action? I'm not passing any of it off as my own, I'm simply using a Wordpress plugin to get the RSS feeds from sites and post them on mine. Thanks.
Giving credits is a good thing. The possibility to take them off is another good thing. Usually before someone sues anyone also sends him a warning notice... but I don't know if this is a rule.
Thanks for your post. In the about page I will write something like "None of the content is written by myblogname, it is posted from other sites RSS feeds." If another site has a problem with it I'll take them off. Awaiting more replies to see if anybody else knows anymore!
RSS feeds are generally for personal use and not for competing webmasters to reprint full articles. This is copyright infringement. You are okay if you reprint the title and first one or two paragraphs. Never listen to idiots telling you to do something until you are notified to stop. They are here to skirt the law and can't be taken seriously as webmasters.
Giving credit to the source is always a good thing but copying the whole article even though it's from a rss feed is another story. I've seen top rank tech sites using such plug-in but so far i haven't seen them posted the whole article. What I usually see is a run down of the feed, a sort of a summary or review. If I were you I would just post a few short thoughts about the article then pass on the credit to the source.
Thanks for your reply. I've decided to use feeds that give a small summary and then post "Go to source" at the end, directly linking to the original post. Thanks everyone.
Copyright infringement for sure. Another question is how much the creator really care. And as mentioned, they usually send out a warning first. Make sure you are contactable.
