Auto-update sitemap? Is there any script out there to do that?

Is there a script that automatically updates a Google Sitemap and sends it to Google please?

It's called CRON. Depends on your hosting deal/server whether you can use it.

I appreciate that a cronjob can be set-up. Is there a specific sitemap script you know of that has easy instructions on how to set up the script and run it via a cron?

www.xml-sitemaps.com has one which is fairly simple to set up.

 

phpSitemapsNG is pretty easy to use as well

 

Certain CMS's might have Sitemaps plugins as well, so if you're using one, it might be worth checking to see. For example, there's a Sitemaps plugin for Wordpress (blog) that will automatically create a new sitemap and ping Google after you make a post.

Otherwise, you're probably best to look into a cron job as TOPS30 mentioned. They can be a pain to set up. Google's got some info if you want to use their sitemap generator at:

creating xml sitemaps with using PHP cron jobs is the best method to get high SEO results.

 

Another options is to automate a desktop tool like e.g. A1 Sitemap Generator to run daily.
You can configure everything visually in the program and save it as a project.
Then start the software (and load the project)t using Windows Task Scheduler.
