Auto-update sitemap? Is there any script out there to do that?

It's called CRON. Depends on your hosting deal/server whether you can use it.

    Thanks for your response :)

I appreciate that a cronjob can be set-up. Is there a specific sitemap script you know of that has easy instructions on how to set up the script and run it via a cron?

    Thanks again.

Certain CMS's might have Sitemaps plugins as well, so if you're using one, it might be worth checking to see. For example, there's a Sitemaps plugin for Wordpress (blog) that will automatically create a new sitemap and ping Google after you make a post.

Otherwise, you're probably best to look into a cron job as TOPS30 mentioned. They can be a pain to set up. Google's got some info if you want to use their sitemap generator at:

    Will this work, maybe?

    In crontab:

    15 3 2,17 * * elcash python /home2/elcash/www/sitemap/sitemap_gen-1.4/sitemap_gen.py --config=/home2/elcash/www/sitemap/sitemap_gen-1.4/config.xml && wget http://www.google.com/webmasters/sitemaps/ping?sitemap=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.mydomain.com%2Fsitemap%2Fsitemap.xml.gz
    Code (markup):
I wanted to generate a sitemap at 3:15am on the 2nd and 17th of the month, then ping google after it's been updated...

Will this site xml creator be everything you need to create a sitemap that automatically pings and reports the google crawlers to view your site each time a page is submitted...

I'm very interested in this. Anyone?

http://www.AutoMapIt.com does automatic updates regardless of your CMS, blog, or forum software. It pings Google when there are updates, but it also pings Yahoo when there are updates. There is no cron to setup and you can choose to have the files automatically uploaded or to pick them up from the site. It also offers a lot more than just sitemaps if you are interested in other tools for your site. Hey, if the spider is already visiting your site, might as well go all the way :)

Yes I also need the php script to create auto updating xml sitemaps.

creating xml sitemaps with using PHP cron jobs is the best method to get high SEO results.

Another options is to automate a desktop tool like e.g. A1 Sitemap Generator to run daily.
You can configure everything visually in the program and save it as a project.
Then start the software (and load the project)t using Windows Task Scheduler.

If your site is using wordpress platform, try to install plugin called "Google Sitemap plugin", it will automatically update your content (post) and send your sitemap files to Google/Bing webmaster tools account, you can get more extra settings for upgrade to the Pro version with license key.
