I really thought that Google was smarter than this, but in a recent search for "investment bank rankings" (without the quotes), I found this webpage ranked no. 5.

http://finance. slackerhtml .com/investment-bank-rankings.html (remove 2 spaces to make link work)

Sure this is not a very competitive keyword, but for utter junk like this to rank in the company of highly reputed websites is scary!

Im really wondering whats the difference with the above link and the fourth link in your signature. It even seems that the text in your signature link contains the same text as on this website, www.fullbooks.com/ The-Age-of-Big-Business1 .html . Talking about utter junk. Tiptoes quitely away :D

I agree that is kind of scary.

I have also seen a number of sites getting very good rankings for some decent high demand keywords.

The sites are likely 7000 page sites created within just 20 minutes or so by directory generator software. Or also software that just puts copy into a blender and then posts it up on a site.

I hope google figures out the algorithm's to these 'blender' programs and removes them from the search results.. its pure garbage.

And I can't believe Brad Fallon over at seo radio was actually promoting one of these punks.

    Hi Crazyhorse,
All 4 links (not just the fourth one) in my sig are to full text public domain books. You are right about there being multiple copies of these books on the web. To that extent all (except maybe gutenberg) are junk.

The reason I pointed out the link was that it was content created using a mail-merge kind of program. It has sentence like : "Applying for a yahoo finance is free and you can even complete it online." Also, try refreshing the page a couple of times, and you will find that the script re-creates the text.

Thanks for your feedback on my site. Somehow, I see it as far less "junk" than many sites I have visited. If you are interested in business concepts, may I recommend that you read it?

    Thanks
    Ajeet

I didnt want to flame at you at all. :p Its just that i dont get why people always bother about the lots of spam out there. Search engines without spam, that would be a utopia. I guess two people dont think alike right. ;)

I watched parts of an interview yesterday afternoon on PBS with Charlie Rose interviewing the CEO of Google. It was really interesting. Espicaly when he talked about Adsense etc, but what was incredible was the search part, the ceo says in time Googles search will become narrowed more and more, for instance instead of a search phrase bringing back 5,000 pages, it will in time bring back 1.

he said of course this is years away, probably ? But that is what google is working on now. But, narrowing the search results more and more will mean some folks sites will be filtered out, but others will rise more to the top.

They say the hardest part of the searching is making the search more personalized, so in time google and all search engines will know a LOT about each of us using them. So when say someone searches for: hot dog, it will know whether we are searching for info on real dogs that are hot, or the hot dogs we eat, lol

That is a scary thought. What is going to happen to all of the new sites out there. They are pretty well screwed, can you imagine how frustrated people are going to get when they can't get in the SERPS at all with Google.

I am pretty sure this is going to hurt Google when people start noticing that when they search for Bush and only get results talking about GW and not their favorite Rose Bush.......

I am already haven't a hard enough time getting my site indexed, and it is totally legit

Yup, that site is quite smelly. But it doesn't have any PR.
