What is so annoying about it ? It just takes a few clicks and you are done.

They need to be certain of who you claim you are or else you get more frauds than there is now through Paypal. Without verification, anyone can claim who they like to be then you will not know who you be dealing with.

if you are so fed up with the paypal, why don't you use money bookers.
but then, credit card validation is the easiest one!! though if paypal accepted faxed documents, i would be even happier!

Authentication is a means to protect genuine customers. It's meant to benefit everyone including you and me.

I think it depends on the country. So far I know that you can use your CC to verify your PP account. Don't be upset because this is for security purpose only. Why not verify your account using your bank account?

Agree. I only used my CC to verify my Paypal account. I received my verification code via CC statement. Later on, I linked my bank account to Paypal. There is another round of verification which is done by Paypal on our behalf. A word of advice, please make sure you have online banking as you would be required to check on test transactions which Paypal did to your bank account.
