http://www.nytimes.com/2006/02/21/international/europe/21austria.html So much for free speech in Europe. I think we can all agree that this guy is most likely off his rocker. However, I'm thankful that we live in the U.S. and are allowed unpopular (and often wrongheaded) theories and beliefs.
yeah...pretty old news :/ if you read some other articles though, they say he reversed his thoughts later after the trial.
In a clip on the BBC he said he was not an expert on the Holocust. Why is he speaking about it and writing books then?
well i think you should not go to prison for that, but it is still pretty lame to deny holocaust .... not just lame it is ignorant !
It's against their law to say such a thing. Given history and the region, you should be able to understand why. After the war, that region become extremely self-conscious about the atrocities that took place and they tried to over-compensate for it.
Austria dealing with hard past. They was allways on wrong side. Does anyone remember Kurt Waldheim? He was even general secretary of UN, and then, "Waldheim was accused of being either involved, or complicit, in "war crimes"". Ofcourse in WWII. As nazi oficer. He was, later: Foreign Minister of Austria, General secretary of UN and President of Austria. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kurt_Waldheim For me it is a good move. Killing in both world wars millions of people must have consequences in law system, prepared for people who didnt changed oppinion. It is not same to be in nazi party today, lets say, in US and in Austria.
just kidding But I still think that we need to be free to speak the way we want, whatever it is about. They must give Hans Flemming 3 years too for posting the mohammad cartoons.
Anyway, if Hitler tried to kill as many jews&gypsies as possible, why are there any holocoast survivors at all?
There are survivors, because Hitler made an incredible tactical mistake in the war, which led to his demise. In the end, his passionate hate contributed to the demise of the Axis. It's a good thing, because if he kept going on the proper war path, things would have been totally different.
