    Hi,

What is meant by auditing a website for the purpose of optimizing it for search engines? How would you carry out such and audit and what factor helps in setting a time factor for a client in case of 1 keyword on google?

I would really like some comprehensive replies or links on this topic.

    Thanks in advance!

Auditing a website should consist of several reports. Firstly, a technical audit, examining everything in the build of the site that could effect its search engine performance - coding, redirects, use of flash etc
Then a user demand and content audit- keyword research on the niche of the site, and seeing how well or badly both the choice and positioning of keywords has been.
A links audit should examine backlinks and anchor text, to see what good links the site has gained naturally, to investigate if more of this type can be gained, or if there are obvious types have links that have never been gained.
There should also be a competitors audit - examine the main rival sites, what they do well, and what can be learnt from them and replicated and improved upon.

the problem with paying for an audit is that all it does is tell you what the problems are, not necessarily how to fix them, this generally comes at a significant price tag.
