I made a bid for a website in the thread that was BIN pending verification of ownership. While we were communicating someone else came along and used the bidding system. The whole process seems greatly unfair if someone can offer a conditional BIN in a thread only to be outmaneuvered by someone using the DP bidding system. Does the bidding system allow for a bid to be rescinded even if it is a BIN bid?
A "bid in a thread" isn't really a bid... and no, once you make a real bid only the seller can void it.
So, we are expected to bid on a site that has unverified ownership and only the seller can void the bid? Great system for the scammers, not so great for buyers. Adds a whole new meaning to "buyer beware."
No, you aren't expected to bid on anything... if someone can't verify site ownership, I would definitely say don't bid.
I bid in the thread and made my offer pending verification. The seller claimed the "system" to verify site ownership was confusing - whether it is or not, I have no idea. The seller made the edit of my request, we agreed to the deal, they provided their PayPal addy and they asked me to close the thread. In the meantime, the other person made the bid - 30 minutes after my post in the thread. Just seems the system, as currently designed, leaves buyers with the choice of buying a full risk of being defrauded or asking the right questions and being shut out of the sale. Perhaps something as basic as verifying site ownership should be mandatory to participate in the bidding system? Traffic, income and all the rest are secondary and meaningless if the person offering the site for sale has no actual authority to do so.
Agreed... which is why we put a giant red notice at the top of any sale thread where the owner hasn't verified ownership. We can't force someone to verify ownership, but we can make it clear they haven't. And no, it's not hard to verify ownership. If a site owner can't figure out how to upload a simple file to their site, well... how did they get the rest of the site there?
