Atheists know more about religion that so-called believers.

Non-believers and agnostics scored an average of 20.9 out of 32 in a quiz about different faiths, while religious respondents averaged 16.5.

People in the south of the US, which is renowned for its religious fervour, performed worse than those elsewhere.

Almost half of Catholics surveyed did not know that their church teaches that the bread and wine used in Communion actually become the body and blood of Christ.

    edit: title should read "than"

I seriously doubt that. For someone who believes in God and later find out there is no God, then its fine. But if an atheist later find out there is a God....wow, you're in big trouble!

Menj, Its not knowledge about god. Its knowledge about religion. And likely not just knowledge about one religion, but knowledge about all religions. I always find it funny when people field doubt without providing an explanation. I doubt there is a sun.

I don't see how this applies to you, unless if you are claiming to be an atheist (I'm pretty sure that you were one but since you were making a lot of noise about that, I didn't mention it any longer). Now I wonder if I was right and you were lying about your "religion".

I seriously don't care . It might be true though . A lot of atheist study up the worlds religions to find out what's the deal whit God . Of course like every person that tries that they end up whit burnt neurons .

I'm not sure how my response applies to religion. Someone conducted a survey, and you questioned the results without providing any explanation as to why you questioned the results. You also provided commentary that wasn't related to the questions asked on the survey. My response was not about religion at all, but rather focused on your ignorance.

Same thing that would happen if you find out you were worshiping the wrong god. If you aren't worried about what would happen if thor, vishnu, Anu, Baal or Eos happened to exist why should i worry about what would happen if your particular god exists?

Besides, the study found that atheists knew more about religion than so called "believers", believers who have proven themselves to be inadequately ill-educated on the very thing they claim is of up utmost importance. I don't know if this is because the religious, in study after study, show themselves to be of lower intelligence than atheists or that the more you know about made up shit the less likely you are to believe it, but it has certainly confirmed what we all suspected.

Don't worry about us monotheists, we know that it isn't the "wrong god" because God cannot possibly exist in a polytheistic context. Otherwise all the many "gods" will be fighting each other and the world would be destroyed by now.

And you didn't mention that Muslims were not statistically defined in the survey:

Muslims, Hindus and Buddhists were included in the survey, but their numbers were too small to be broken out as statistically significant groups.

    Source

Not to mention that it only covers Americans, so we don't know whether atheists in other parts of the world are as smart as they are or otherwise. But since you are in England, its a safe bet that you aren't part of the "smart atheists" group.

Besides the study that the thread is about? nope, nothing, nothing besides the study that was conducted.

Atheists score 1.95 IQ points higher than Agnostics, 3.82 points higher than Liberal persuasions, and 5.89 IQ points higher than Dogmatic persuasions.
    http://www.sciencedirect.com/scienc...serid=10&md5=db2ee09bae0195cc1ecbd026da77245c

A survey of Royal Society fellows found that only 3.3 per cent believed in God - at a time when 68.5 per cent of the general UK population described themselves as believers.
A separate poll in the 90s found only seven per cent of members of the American National Academy of Sciences believed in God.
Professor Lynn said most primary school children believed in God, but as they entered adolescence - and their intelligence increased - many started to have doubts.

No I'm asking if there is any study that backs up your claim that believers consider religion the most important thing in their lives .

As for your link to sciencedirect.com it asks me for cash when i try to look at the data .

You are contesting the claim that religious people consider it to be of the utmost importance?

The true religion is not based on script. The religion remains the source of pursuit for believers irregardless the denomination for those who will accomplish remittance and know fully well the path has not yet been found.

There's been around 100 billion people that have lived on earth that a shit ton of people who are 'in trouble' for being unaware of something. Really can't imagine a cave man and Paris Hilton together in Hell, that sounds so stupid it's laughable like most religions that claim there's a castle in the sky.

ApocalypseXL, are you contesting the claim that to religious people religion, you know, the thing that they think determines what they do for eternity, is of the utmost importance?

yeah, except the people who know most about religion are atheists, people who don't believe it at all. I don't doubt that you will spin this news on your blog, because that's what the religious do. They lie and distort reality.

stOx you're to intelligent to post some half witted question like that . You know dam well what I was saying . If you could perhaps tune your hatred just a little bit you'd be a a great guy all around . Still I might be wasting my words here since your character might be built just to campaign for atheism (chances are in that favor , unfortunately).

Vebtools . You're words are total bull . Islam in the USA is a issue far more complex then your brain can understand . If you could understand the Lotka-Voltera generalized algorithm you would not post such silly information .
