How can someone thats atheist say that they live in the year 2008 because surely that implies that they believe they are living 2008 years after christ?
How can someone that is Christian think all the animals of the world were put on a single boat made by an old man? Let's not forget that his family then created mexicans, blacks, indians, and every other nationality without any evolution. What kind of stupid question is this..? PS: jesus most likely existed as a person, just not a magical god as you claim. This thread = pure failure.
Meh, I'm in a 2% minority in the United States, so I've got to adapt to the calendar system that the overwhelming majority of my country uses. If I lived in the Middle East I'd probably adjust and be calling this the year 1429 right now.
Thank you for realizing what I was referring to. The Gregorian calendar is the most common calendar system, but the Hebrew, Islamic, Hindu, and other systems are also popular.
Heh, Wikipedia is your friend. I'm not foolish enough to pretend that despite my beliefs as to Jesus Christ's divinity, he is an important figure for much of the world's population and an overwhelming majority of my country's population and that the adopted calendar system based on his life will be what I must adjust to in this country.
It implies we live 2008 years after jesus was supposedly born, it doesn't imply that jesus existed, That people who say "2008" believe in jesus or that the year denotes the time since his actual birth. The calendar we use was put in place hundreds of years after jesus' supposed birth and only goes to prove that the people who invented the calendar which we use were christians. We need some way to track the year, And this is as good as any. it's hardly evidence of anything.
Yeh, i have no problem with anyones religious beliefs i just think deeply about why things are the way they are sometimes and don't have the answer to my own questions. Thanks for all your replies.
I think this is well written and you have expressed what I think I would have stated. No need to restate the same thing. Reps given!
Me too. I was wondering when someone was going to flame the OP. I am really impressed that no one has.
I just tihnk insulting peoples beliefs is immature and many conflicts throughout the world at the current time are due to this.
It's sad people would have a physical fight just because they feel their religion has been offended. Seriously if you think there's a god, wouldn't he have better things to do then sit around all day and listen to what us petty humans say .
Not only that but do you think he gets off by making people starve, or people die of horrendous and unimaginable diseases.
Thats exactly what makes it hard for me to believe in any religion, and the fact that science created the world and their could be other life species on other planets that would contradict religion.
Imagine the vastness of this universe. I think each person on this forum has a better chance of hitting the lottery twice then that being true.
There are many things in our society that are based on various belief systems (including many non-Christian.) Our calender system is the agreed upon standard and has nothing to do with religion at this time. It may have originated from such but that's completely meaningless today. This question is sort of like asking "How can Christians use algebra?"
This is pointless arguing, does it really matter what time is based off? The death of a guy? Who cares if they believe in him or not. This is just arguing for the sake of arguing.
