THAT is the best way I have ever heard of this issue being explained! Will is SO right on with this one. I would also like to add RELIGION to the list of "if you're weak and stupid it is dangerous". I'm not anti-religion, as I think it is a great thing for many people, but I have seen it ruin the lives of people with addictive personalities (for example, I have seen recovering alcoholics become as obsessed with religion as they were with alcohol). I met an extremely nice guy at school once, but his obsession with "saving me" completely ruined our relationship.

Unfortunately they are way too many weak and stupid people in todays society, which is why we have so many problems with knives, guns, cars, alcohol, voting, religion, etc.

On a side note to the anti-marijuana posts I've read here, I know people that smoke pot every day and are unmotivated losers. I also know people that smoke pot every day and own/operate million dollar corporations. I don't smoke pot (or do ANY drugs for that matter) so I think I am unbaised in saying that, it's not the drug, it's the person.

So this thread is now shifting to Marijuana....does that mean this thread about religion is closed? I think now's a good time to do it. Whew.

Wow good job getting a post censored because you can't handle simple facts. Show me a single record of a person dying from using marijuana. If you can't I suggest you stfu.

Too much of anything is bad for you.

The reason MJ is illegal is because you can't tax homegrown plants and any moron can grow it as evident by a subset of current growers of the plant. It's much more lucrative for the government to confiscate drug money.

For every dollar we bitch about the tobacco companies making, the government makes as much or more in tobacco taxes.

Ummm... no. Disease has killed more humans than religion, by far.

Where do you come up with this crazy stuff?

Malaria alone kills between one and three million people every year.

I meant un-natural. IE drunk driving, plane crashes, suicide, etc.

So you say that religion has killed more people than 'un-natural' causes of death? Unfortunately it would be all but impossible to verify due to the difficulties in gathering the data. That is, of course if you are going to include every 'non-natural' form of death, or only a select view (which is kind of dodgy, as you can prove just about any claim if you start trying to exclude things that disprove it)

Its more prevalent in the south. I agree with the cult thing.... it comes from a literal interpretation.. whereas they believe that if your faith is strong enough, you can hold a poisonous serpent without getting bitten or hurt.

I wouldnt know about the healling mass. I dont condone "holy-roller" activities as a Catholic, but who am I to say that some people dont experience religion in that way... I guess all I can really say is that it doesnt fall into my personal beliefs. I go to mass, accept communion, and ask for forgiveness and leave it at that. What other people do is between themselves and God. :)

However, on a side note, I have seen extraordinary acts of healing through religion. It wasnt instantaneous by any means, but it was miraculous.

    To each his own :D

Nobody has directly died from praying to God, just like nobody has directly died from using marijuana. Both have had many indirect deaths, however Religion has had far more.

Uhh... clue in. Those are criminals who travel to the Vatican to rob tourists. Those aren't citizens of the Vatican committing crimes.

Quit posting stupid crap. If you have an intelligent argument, post it.

World War II alone killed more people than the Crusades. Hitler murdered more people than were killed in the Crusades. More people have been murdered for not submitting themselves to the government (not the state religion) than for any other reason. That doesn't include the deaths attributed to trying to stop those governments from murdering so many people.

In Communist Russia, Stalin's pet religion was allowed to exist but Lenin would have prefered everyone being atheist. So those were your two options: Orthodox or Athiest. Unless you liked being dead.

In modern communist countries you are required to be athiest or a member of a state allowed religion. Otherwise, it's off with your head. I'm sure everyone knows how many people have been murdered in China for not obeying the government's rules about religion. And if not, surely it must be less than were killed in religious wars.

If people would just stop being religious (and thereby dare to question authority), there would be no need to murder them all.

    Duh.

It's so obvious that religion is the problem. Think about it. If the Jews would just stop being Jews they wouldn't have to be murdered by those peace loving Muslim neighbors of theirs.

    It's logic.

So really, if you want a scapegoat, it's government. We should just disolve all governments and allow everyone to do whatever they want. That'll be awesome.
