Why are some extensions like .at $80/yr to register? Can I register other countries domain extentions?

Depends on the country or territory setting the domain extension for both the price and whether you can register it or not.

Yes you can probably register .co.uk's depending on your location and they are $10-$15 for two years, dont know where you got $80 from.

I've never used them as a host, but have a couple of domains with them, forwarded the DNS no problem.
I've never tried to sell/transfer domains either, maybe that could be probmatic, i don't know.

Why do you not like them McFox?

    $8.88 for .co.uk domains at www.namecheap.com
Also, google 'namecheap coupon' for a further $1 off coupon, making it $7.88.

    Try www.123-reg.co.uk for uk names.

I bought 2 there, parked one, redirect the other. Cost me about $6 or so.
Don't know what customer service is like, never used it.

    edit: $6 for each name

ok Mcfox, I guess it's not the best place for hosting (but to be honest I wouldn't choose to host there simply by reading the service that is offered)

The second article was posted in 2004, and is out of date, I have two domains registered there and they are both hosted on different servers.

The third article sounds like a credit card problem and is also hosted on the nameservers forums, having read a bit about forums here, services etc. I would not trust anything I read on a webhosting company's bulletin board.

I only ever had grounds to contact them once, funnily enough it was about hosting plans, they replied the same day, saying they don't support cpanel.

So I'll still stick to them as a place to keep my UK domains (which I develop on other servers), but having read mcFox's stuff, and needing php/mysql etc would not recommend it as a place to put an advanced website on.

I can assure you the problem was a lot more than credit-card related and is nothing to do with Namepro's forum. Imho it's called the 1&1 'death-grip'! I've had personal experience with 1&1 uk and would strongly advise anyone against registering domains or hosting with them. Only my opinion, of course ;)

AT and DE domains have country restrictions if you want them, but with a local administration contact you can get them.

I suggest united-domains.de for them, but if you are not good with German you may always try GoDaddy where UK domains in dollar prices, other registrar sound cheap but the price is Euros or British Pounds.
