Assign genre to categories

    I want to be able to assign a genre to categories like this site http://www.animelime.com/?genre=all you see when click on any genre it will list all the categories that contain that genre. How can I do this?

    Maybe I'm missing something, or I don't know enough about this but...

    It seems that you could use the built in tags for this no?

    Categories can't have tags. Tags can't list categories that contain a genre
