Asmallorange.com getting really annoying

I have an account with amsallorange.com. I put a few low traffic sites on there while I keep higher traffic sites on hostgator and lunarpages.

Despite the fact that these sites are extremely low traffic and that I never come anywhere close to using my monthly bandwidth allowance, the clowns that run asmallorange shut me down at least every other month.

When I ask why, it's always something about CPU usage. Which site was the problem? They don't know.

Like I said, my other shared hosting plans handle much busier and resource intensive sites. Asmallorange has been total crap compared to hostgator or lunarpages.

I really need to find a new host and everyone else really needs to learn from my mistake. Never sign up with asmallorange.com

They should at least know which one is causing the usage.

What are you using your sites ? php/mysql ?

Maybe you could just get rid of your asmallorange account and transfer your sites over to your two other hosting accounts at hg and lp. I've got 13 on my lp shared with no issues. How many do you already have on them?

ASO was very good before, but I do hear something not good about them recently. They might get big, and run into trouble? Not sure.

What are your requirements for new host?

Oh yeah - I'm definitely moving my sites. Like I said, Lunarpages and Hostgator handle much more demanding sites with no trouble. I have about5-10 blogs (movable type and wordpress) on the account. One gets a few hundred uniques/day - the others less than 100. It's not supposed to stress out a decent server...

Do you have your blog comments enabled, and auto approving? I've seen wordpress script and other blogging/article scripts creating a problem when comments are set to auto approval, and spam bots flood such blog with a large number of comments/spam. Then only one click on such post (with thousands of comments) can create big server load. They should be able to detect what is creating those problems though... I don't see any reason why they shouldn't.

No. My blogs have the latest versions of the software and no spam comments. Like I said, there is no reason why my sites should be overloading the server.

I would ask them to switch you onto a new server. CPU usage could come from any account on that particular server. That's probably why they are unable to tell you which site it is. It is probably another account completely unrelated to yours that is causing the problems. That is part of the drawbacks of shared hosting. Anyway, ask if they will put your sites on another shared host to see if that helps.

I am moving to a new host. I know for a fact that hostgator and lunarpages are both better. That's where I'm going.

Good luck. Hostgator will shut you down for resource abuse also.

Hostagator and Lunarpages could be better than SmallOrange but still limiting their services. I know this because several of my clients I develop projects for use such providers and, compared with my site hosted on Servage, all of those hosting services suck :rolleyesL

All of the hosts you mentioned suck. Try "ThePrimeHost". Best hosting services I've ever used. :)

I appreciate the name drops, servage, theprimehost, but I find it tough to listen to forum recommendations now. Someone on DP recommeded me to ASO and they are horrible. Someone here also recommended A2B2 / VASERV and they were even worse than ASO (pretty sad considering I had a $225/month dedicated server).

If a second host starts shutting down these sites then I will admit I was wrong and apologize to ASO. But I'm pretty confident that these low traffic sites are not abusing anything...
