Would google be able to tell you if clicks from a site are invalid if you ask them? What would they say?

If you think that your clicks are suspected then you can just contact google and ask them to review your clicks. If you will do this then they will consider you as a quality publisher as you are asking them to review your account for the invalid clicks and it proves that you really want to maintain the google and publisher relationship.

I also heard of someone getting banned after doing this, any other thoughts?

Good advice Jal. A friend of mine tried to scam google and click his own ads. He made a huge balance but they figured it out and cancelled his adsense account so he never got paid. In addition, his IP address was blacklisted and none of his clicks on ads count anymore. Advertisers don't have to pay anytime he clicks on google ads because his IP has been blacklisted by Google. It's almost like a double win for google, they stopped a scammer and give their advertisers free clicks.

I had asked them once...they didn't give a clear answer.. just sent me a stupid link to Google Adsense terms and conditions.

It is unlikely that they will disclose exact details about invalid clicks, else publishers may start testing Adsense for which invalid clicks get detected and which don't.

if they banned the scammers ip, well how would that work? since all residential connections (dsl, cable, dialup) are dynamic ip addresses it would be impossible to block the scammer permanently

My internet has a dynamic ip, and egold always think a new person is trying to log into my account, so I have to keep typing in a code from email.
