Hi I have found that if you post a topic asking for backlink exchange you get alot of people that will send you thier link and say that they have added you when in face they have not bothered to add your link. I did a FREE SEO Backlink Varify search and i found that 8 out of the 12 links i have listed was not linking to me. Why cant some people just be nice and share
It takes long time to work out for accepting reciprocal links and your site should be relevant to their site.
Reciprocal links can still help on some level, but it's a small part of an entire link building strategy. Try to find 1-2 per week and don't worry too much about it. It should only take 5-10 minutes per month to make sure your link is still there.
I've read that apart from checking nofollow links (firefox) you should also check the robots txt file to make sure they don't stop the links being indexed that way. I agree with you that people who say they will link to you and don't are dishonest.
Yeah, i have had a few people do a link exchange with me and they do not keep the link up and online - Which i find really really rude. a note to those whom attempt this; Ill be happy to take your site down
Sorry mate, but you need to get a grip - this is how it is. I have dealt with laods of great people online, and 99% have beed completly genuine, but you need to accept that this sort off thing happens and not waste your time worrying about it, . DD
I totally agree. I wouldn't advise anyone to pursue reciprocal linking any more. One-way links are what you want to acquire in order to help boost your PR and SERP position.
People keep saying this, but there really isn't any evidence that reciprocal links "cancel each other out". If I had to choose between a high PR, relevant and keyword rich reciprocal link and no link at all, I would choose the reciprocal link. Here's the problem with acquiring one-way links. Almost no webmaster will give you a free link, no matter how much they love your site. This means they will either want to be paid (which is also against Google's policy) or will want a link in return. As for paying companies to get you links. Most of these companies will either take your money and give you nothing, or will give you a handful of useless links that will not help at all. Finally, blogs, forums and articles are a great way of acquiring one-way links, but these links will not count for much. It could take you hundreds if not thousands of these links to move you up one position in the search engine results.
I could not disagree more! I see several SEO blogs pointing to Digital Point, and I see many signature links pointing right back to the blogs. Cancel each other out? Well, but the gods NEVER EVER NOT EVEN ONCE LINK TO ANYONE! Why? heh... they might actually like your sight enough to link back! IMHO, that needed to be said again!
Finding lots of one-way links may not be as difficult as you think, with a little specialized knowledge. ;-)
Ok, I'll bite. I've been doing this for years and I've read every book on SEO that has ever been published (in recent years). Nevertheless, I'll still bite. I really, really want to believe that there are secrets out there that could take me to the next level. To be honest, I'm really getting tired of hunting for relevant and high PR links. However, why not just share some of this "specialized knowledge" with us in this forum. Or are you like everybody else. You want us to pay you, so you can just tell us in different words what we already know. I've been reading SEO forums and blogs now for years, and it's been years since I read anything that I didn't already know. So please, please, please share with us here this "specialized knowledge" that could give our sites a boost.
It's not so much what you know...it's about how easy you make it for other people to link to you. If you have my software on your site, people will link to you and you'll get an email everytime a new link is posted to your link directory. It's automated for you.. if they "break" their link to your website after they put it up, then you'll be able to see that and with a single click, it can be deleted from your directory. You can also email the webmaster with a single click. So ...you don't have to get frustrated anymore because you spent 5 minutes of your valuable time manually pasting in a copy of their linking code to your links page, you opened up your ftp client, connected to your site, and uploaded your links page. This type of link exchange is old school, although I will do this myself if it's a high traffic page. Otherwise, just show people your "add a link" page and they do all the work.
A little dramatic, don't you think? I can tell that you are burned out and frustrated. I can hear the cynicism in your tone. But really, there is no need to make it quite so complicated. The "specialized knowledge" is right under your nose.
Reciprocal links are useful, especially if they bring in targeted traffic as well (By being in prominent positions on the other site). Indeed.
Yes this is true. It is one of then oldest and do not have any effect on SERP's. So forget that and concentrate on other optimization strategies. Even this is being stated by Matt Cutt on his blog.
