Hello all, I think I've reached a point where I can hardly get new links for my site Free Software Downloads Archive. I made a press release, I tried to wrote an article (but this is not easy), I submitted to free & paid directories (I think the free ones are a lost of time because most of them are NEVER going to add your link), I submitted RSS, I even got some links on this forums asking different questions (of course, I don't talk for links, I talk to get knowledge and I thank you all for that). But let's get to the point, the real links. I take one of my competitors site and I see his links. Ok. Then I want a link on one of those sites. How do you get in touch with those people and how do you determine them to answer, because I really tried to send email and got no answer. Maybe it's because I have PR 0 (I hope the PR update will solve this issue). Can you point some good examples to approach such a situation?
Try my article service (see signature.) Look for an add link form on the site. When you email, write the email so it's obvious the email is written buy you and is not an automated email. If neither of those methods work, try phoning them. The site owners phone number should be listed in the Whois database if it is not on the site.
Ok, so you say I should compose a dedicated email. Can I find something like a template? Or an example?
That's what you want to avoid. Template based emails are easy to spot. If you want the best response rate, write a fresh, personal email for each one. Take the time to look up the owner's name in the whois and use it! Sorry, but I don't have a good example lying around as I don't do link exchanges any more.
Yu can buy links and some sites use link exchanges. I do not like the link exchange sites but some people do get high rank from some.
In the case where site you are trying to get a link from has higher PR, have seen some people recommend adding a link to them first before mailing / contacting. For sure whatever communication you do to a site should be personalized if you want to make it through the SPAM filters & get someones' attention.
I read about this, first to put t he link on your site and then ask for exchange. Do you think exchanging links is still a good method for increasing PR? How did you get your one way links? Emailed to webmasters and asked for a link ? What did you offer? I think this is an interesting experience that can be shared with the other DP members.
most of the people here do free and paid directory submission. i dont think anyone will do sending email for a link anymore. it's almost the same like free dir that they might not add your site even you add his link... i tried it before but none answer my emails or add my link...
Ok, so all of your links come from free and paid directories, articles, press releases ? No other sources? Because it seems these kind of links have a small value.
This is an article by Eric Ward/Link Moses, it should be very helpful http://www.clickz.com/showPage.html?page=831971#bio
There's still value in doing things the old fashioned way if your site has real value & you seek out complementary / related sites.
Yes, I am trying new and old fashioned ways. Can you take a look at my site Free Software Downloads and tell me which type of site can be related to mine? The other software directories are out of discussion I think. Also, like ivantk said, having PR 0 will not help at all to get links.
You're right about it being old. All the way back in 2000. Usually it is not advised to get Seo advice from an article so old, since algorithms change so frequently. But luckily good advice for forming a link request stays the same.
Hmmm... I added your link to my directory. My directory is just PR0 so it won't really do much, but I just wanted to help.
