    Hello

In all my sites i am using /%postname but some people also use /%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/%postname%/ as this tells on which date post created

    Thanks

You can use /%category%/%postname%/. Usually all categories are keywords.

Hey, generally if you build a hierarchy of keywords in order for your URL, this tends to give the best SEO effect..

Since i already explained it on my blog I'll just link you to it rather than re-write everything: Search Engine Optimised URLs.

As a personal preference I like to use the date in my URLs purely because I like to know the age of an article and it's much easier to look in the URL than scan the page.. But it's probably better for SEO if you leave it out, to be honest..

I use /%postname%/. Some will recommend not using this because WordPress "can" develop performance issues if you have thousands and thousands of posts. It's a database indexing (or lack of index) issue w/ WordPress. I'm guessing this will eventually get fixed since MOST people still use /%postname%/.

Having months and years and dates in your URLs only serve to reduce any keyword density you may have in a keyword rich URL. If you've every looked at Google's WMT where they show the anchor text they are seeing in your inbound links, if you have sites linking to you with the URL of your page like http://www.example.com/some-folder/keyword-rich-page-name.html as the link text then you will notice that they see "http www example com some folder keyword rich page name html" as the link text. I don't really care about keyword density so much in the main content of pages... But I do care about keyword densities within the individual ranking elements like title, h1, link text, URLs, etc. that serve as supporting structures for the content. The importance of density gets magnified within elements like title and h1 that are themselves ranking factors. The same would be true for URLs IMO.

I defintely don't use category in the permalink. A page can exist in multiple categories so doing so could lead to multiple URLs for the same post, URL canonicalization issues which means duplicate content issues and split PageRank/link juice.
