    Dear all,

several years ago, I read some articles about friendly URL like :
    www.mysite.com/products/ebooks/1

is easier to get rank in search engine rather than link like :
    www.mysite.com/products.php?category=2&page=1

I have been off for SEO matter for long time and now I'd like to build a new website.
Is this friendly URL still one important factor for search engine, specially for google ?

I see recently a site that changed to wordpress and use un-friendly url still on first page of google within their keywords. But this site was build several years ago and was pure static html, altough the extension is .php
And I believe static page is very easy to get high rank (of couse the off site factors are fullfilled).

It gives you some strength, but a title is much more important (by the way, if you can do them both it would be better!) :)

Ok, but there's some slashes before it reach the last argumen (.php)
I was avoiding creating nested subdirectory but not sure what the rule nowadays..

5-6 years ago google's logic probably was so traditional so need time to reach the last argumen.. CMIIW.. :D

In my opinion, the friendly url is more for human and less for search engine.. CMIIW again..

From my experience it does matter, I can give you an example. I had an website with un-friendly URL's and I've got some traffic from Google (about 200 daily UV). After updating the URL's to friendly, in about 3-4 weeks, without any extra changes, traffic was growing to about 450 daily UV (avg). So I'm pretty sure it does matter and also, even if doesn't matter, why to avoid using it and use ugly URL's, in my opinion using friendly URL makes an website to look more pro...

    Thanks for advice Viola94,

Yes, an ugly URL is ugly since it is not a readble URL, and visitors who concern about URL also think this is not pro..

And I ask this question because I am not a good programmer, and inside my code, there are some include files, different sidebars for pages, and jquery ajax that call same PHP file for processing.
I still have problem calling the same file while the page is structured with / (slash).. :)

Currently, the site build with unfriendly URL, just less than a month, but google already list it on first page (not for the main keywords, but at least it there..)
So, considering your reply, perhaps 6 months or next year I'll convert it to friendly URL.

May I know how old is your site before updating to friendly URL ?
