Ask.com's aggressive television advertising.

I have been seeing a surge in TV spots for Ask.com of late. The spots claim that asks search results are better than Google, etc. Do you think this will work? Do they really intend to take on big G? They are paying a heavy price because I have seen some of these spots in primetime positions. Look forward to your feedback.

Googles full of garbage and trash and really is about useless anymore unless you know how to search.

And i hope it works. And to top that off, they are all over the radio stations as well ;)

while I dont use ask, I also only use google for certain things. (always coding related)

otherwise i'm using yahoo and especially MSN.

I'd like to see ASK rise... hell, I'd love to see them all rise up against google.

Ask has been doing well, Google Screwed up Big time. That is why I dont understand why people are like Google is the best.
The big G is not really that big. Yahoo covers more of the web then google does now. Yahoo is a bigger company now. They have more search engines displaying there ads, using there api keys, the whole works. Look at CNN they are using them as well.

I dont hate on google, but they do need to get there stuff together.

It's just like the deal with microsoft people hate them after they get too big. People Look for anything to hate them.

I have just found out that yahoo is better then google for some things, and ask.com is good for other things.

But does this television advertising work for search Engines? I wish MSN would bump it up too if it does work. I know people hate microsoft, but they crawl at the speed of light and get sites indexed. Its a trade off between new content - possible spam and old sites - possilbe irrelevancy, but I think MSN is doing the right thing even if people do hate Microsoft.

I'm not going to defend google or trash anyone but hands down ask does not get better results. ask's filters are very poorly written most often ask will have obscure and irrelevant results. It HIGHLY susceptible to spamming. I can provide you many examples of this. Their media campaign is only an attempt to salvage their engine as its struggling and losing ground... Check the time line of when they started the ads and notice it directly correlates to when they began dropping in numbers. The prime time ads they have are because the owner is huge in broadcasting and can acquire it with great ease.

Please explain why about 10 times in the past week when i tried searching on there engine it said there has been basically way to many queries at once and that try again. They get ALOT of traffic from it. They just sponsored a huge show as well. They are getting alot of traffic, there search is pretty good. I can hardly find anything on google now a days about a year ago i could find whatever i wanted.

Ill give you one example. Try typing "surch.com" into ask.com Notice that the first oh 2 pages are listings that have nothing to do with surch... its some ebay sales guy. So they are as I said, highly susceptible to spam. Now goto ask.com and type "surch" and use their site thumb imaging tool over surch.com's domain.... that image is oh about 6 years old... now I could waste my time and show you many many more examples but Im just taking our site as a perfect example.... and having your engine timeout isn't a sign of traffic when you are as big as ask is... its a poor network issue. Their numbers ARE going down....check with ANY reporting tool.

Take your site EasyMarketer (jtjnet.com/) and type that into ask. you get 4 results...google gives you about 65... So if I were you Id look into it a little more.... I'm not bashing ask I just was pointing out some obv. facts.

I know this has nothing to do with ask, but look at Surch.com it looks like it needs some SEO in the first place. Its a search engine it takes time :) My website is fairly new as well.

well surch is new but its ranked 27K on alexa in its first 3 months and recieves over a million hits a day but thats not the point at all. The fact that their filters didnt pick a spammer is. Check its listing (our yours) in any of the others and you will not see these spammed results... You have 4 in ask and 65 in google with a new site right? so whos better? and as I said if I wasted the time I could show you a ton of examples on this even to well established sites.

All I know is my site has been online for 16 months now, indexed in all the search engines and listed in DMOZ, but not in ASK. They're missing something.

If ASK says it is better than google in the Ad, then it is making ad for google. I do think it's a stupid thing to mention competitor's name in such an expensive ad.

ask.com has a long way to go. Google offers by far better results than ask.

for me, google seems to be the most relevant, even if it has issues, but the others have much more than it.

I have no doubts that G and Y are much better, I have been reminded that often when I look at my log files on site that are G bombed. Ask has also been a godsend for me. After seeing asks referal traffic I remember an ol' saying never kick a gift horse in the mouth. Yet some threads and forums say the bandwith wasted is not worth it nd block tha ask bot. That is fine send it my way and bring it on!

I think their search results have improved significantly within the last the year. They're still behind Google and Yahoo in the search game, but they definitely have the resources to gain some ground. Ask.com was acquired by IAC (InterActiveCorp) a couple of years ago. IAC is the same company that owns Expedia, LendingTree, HSN, Ticketmaster, and many other mega sites.

Should be interesting to see another major player in the search engine industry.
