As ebook popularity grows... will the market for different genres?

In addition to being quite entrepreneurial, I enjoy doing fiction writing and have over the years started and in some cases completed novels which I at some point hope to send to publishers (this hobby takes a back seat to my business endevours but still a goal of mine). I read a lot on these forums about ebooks and almost exclusively all ebooks people are marketing are related to business, often internet business.

With more handheld internet and reading devices, and more and more text going online, do you think there is going to soon be a market for other genres of ebooks such as fiction and entertainment? Have you seen these growing already?

I think there is a lot of stigma against vanity publishing for novels but ebooks are somewhat uncharted territory. I'd love to hear your thoughts as I'd mostly like to get readers for my writing and money would just be an added bonus :).

There is a market for that, but they're called 'short stories', not ebooks. Most aspiring authors don't sell them though, they post them freely for people to read. There's a lot of writing forums out there that let you do this.

Well, of course there are writing forums and short stories online (as well as full novels online, although they tend to be in print form first... just look at what Project Gutenburg has spawned!). I'm more interested in projections for the future - will that always be the case where the net tends to be limited to free writing forums and short stories or if ebooks will start to appear in other genres, AND be sold successfully.

Im not saying you wont make any money but I am saying that we live in a world of wanting things fast and easy. If something takes longer than a few minutes most people are out

Yes there are market for lots of genres of ebook.
But the market already saturated, you must make your story interesting enough to capture reader attention.
Not to mention the competition you may faced such as well known writer

You may want to consider producing free shorter fiction ebooks as a method of promoting your print ebooks. By giving away a free sample of your writing skills and encouraging people to pass it on to their friends you may just create a following of very interested readers.
