Only just started looking at these sites offering articles:

First one i looked at is
    http://www.findarticles.com

A few questions really. First of all it seems that you can just lift these articles and pop them on your site! I assume you have to reference etc. Is this correct?

Any other good article sites out there and is there anything else I should know?

    Thanks
    ~J

As long as you keep it unedited and links are made live, yes you can just pop it on.

Probably the two best sites are
www.goarticles.com (Part of the Jade network)
    and
    www.ezinearticles.com

They have been consistent for years and have a wide range of articles.

After that there are literally hundreds if not thousands of article sites which will no doubt be posted in this thread

Can't believe I've not looked at these sites before. Looks like there could be a lot of potential for promoting a website. Did read recently that google was having issues with determining the source of the article, could this cause problems?

Not really, just besure you surround the article with plenty of unique content.

Its always better to write unique content but you won't get any type of site penalty for using content from these sites (The worst that could happen if you didn't surround it with unique content would be that individual page would not either rank poorly or not be indexed)

Article submission is great. Once you have sent an article you can search for key sentences in the article a few months later and see how many sites have picked it up.

Even if you just submit to 2 sites other webmasters will pick up the article (if its good) and show it on their site with a link to your site.

Some sites give you more exposure than others but in general the more sites you submit to the better.

As yfs1 says if you use articles on your site surround them with unique content and if you submit articles make sure they are good and send them to as many places as you can.

I know there was a thread with a huge list of article directories somewhere in the DP forum. Searching a little should find it. I think it was called "List of Article Directories". I have a list of about 250 sites that run the Article Dashboard script at http://www.after5webdesign.com/directory/index.php?c=472 and the software in my sig will submit articles to them.

Some anti-virus programs don't like installation programs that try to install stuff inthe windows/system directory. Since I parse an XML list and the software is written in VB6, I have to install MSXML4.dll which gets installed in (where else?) the windows/system directory. I am going to do a complete rewrite of version 3 in VB.Net so I can use the .NET framework instead of MSXML4, but that's still a month or two off. Probably more since version 2.0 is only in beta testing right now.

What script's are you guys using for articledepot and articlecity? Currently Article Distributor only submits to sites running the Article Dashboard script, but I'd like to branch out.
