Does anyone knows if there is such a thing? I have many ideas and projects going on and one of them, is to create a space for old people to share their personal experience. This will work as a way to record information that otherwise would be lost. By old people, I mean anyone retired with a lot of spare time in their hands and a natural skill to teach. I know there must be something like that, Be that a forum, a blog, or any other online tool. I am thinking to create a directory so the young community could learn from those who really have been there and done that. So, If you find something like that, please post it here. Also, If you create something similar drop me a note.
Im not aware of it existing as a directory. If you do go ahead with it, its worth considering how you name it and how you mention it, by old people can in ways sound rude. Maybe something like "By people with life experience" By the way not all older people are wise, have skills or lots of time on their hands. The idea of older people sitting around twiddling their thumbs, eager to pass on wisdom often exists in films but not necessarily true in real life. Also a yonger person pnline looking to learn something from the older generation may not be looking for the knowledge that the older person has. "Hi sir can you teach me php" "Er no, but i can show you how to sand down an old chair real good" How will those older people with more experience find the directory? will they have the time to sit and type it all up, will they be inclined to do that? Worth thinking about. Trying to bridge generation gaps like that would be difficult i would imagine.
I dont know - but in the UK all sites like that have the word "senior" in title. I think "old people" wont yield any results
An old people directory? Interesting. But I think that the "old people" are not likely to write anything that is of much interest to a younger audience. People tend to write about things that interest them and for "old people", that would include things like: senior health, disability, housing, death, etc. I don't think you will find many teens or college-aged kids wanting to read articles on liver spots or choosing a denture paste. Be sure to build the site with extra-large text...you know that "old people" eyes are not the best (24-point font should do). And don't make the site's navigation too complicated. "Old people's" precision of movement and memories aren't what they used to be. Just awaken from my third nap of the day. What shall I write about?
I suppose you could reword it as "a senior citizen directory". That would sound more....authoritative?
I think the idea is good if you are just looking for articles on life experiences and stories. I would go for it. Your only problem will be verifying that the person really is old enough to be posting the article.
