Articles - to articles directories or my website ?

    Hi,
I am writing a lot of articles but I'm wondering if I should submit to article directories to build links or add them all to my future website to make it bigger.

Or both, changing the words to avoid duplicate content penalty...

    What's best ?

    Thank you.

You should have some articles that you only use to submit to directories. Keep the best for your own dir.

Thanks for the answer, goscript. I actually think this may be not worth it to have the same articles with different words on articles directories and my website.

If you will decide not to create other articles for your article marketing campaigns at least make sure to first place the articles on your site before doing the distribution. This will ensure in case of a duplicate content penalty that your site will not be penalized.

Sorry my friend that is incorrect. They WILL get picked up and the 'authority' site will win. Meaning if another site has re-printed it, and have stronger authority than yours/clients, they will out rank you regardless of whom is indexed first....

    Hi David,

you misunderstood my post, it wasn't regarding who will out rank who in the serps, I agree with you, If I place an article on my PR0 site and later (48 hours) I place it on ezinearticles.com, the page with the article on ezinearticles will appear in the serps and the one on my site no. But this wasn't the matter, I advice to place the articles first on the site because if you first distribute them and just after you place them on your site Google will think that you copied them from article directory X and might penalize your site for duplicate content.

Regarding to your post David, I have seen so many people complain that they write articles and distribute them to achieve high rankings with their sites just to find out that the optimized article itself is ranked top10 and their sites no where to be seen. I know you understand what I mean, it's just about the authorithy thing you just described.

    Ok - sorry about that... :D -

Now - the whole duplicate content bit is a bit misunderstood though. It is only a filter - other factors would need to be satisfied to graduate to a penalty.

    Here's stuff on Duplicate Content

    SNIPPET

So I wouldn't be overly concerned about penalization. It's more a matter of having another site with more authority trumping U in the SERPs. Keep unique content on the site and have secondary articles written for distribution/syndication IMHO

My articles had rewarded me with more than 10K of backlinks but are not improving the rankings of my websites. Once buried deep, they no longer provide any traffic.

I have 8 articles on my site that I have also submitted to the article directories. I am #1 in Google for the article title in quotes on all but 2 articles where EzineArticles has the #1 position. If you just type in the main words of the title, I am #1 for those articles also. Although my articles aren't showing any PR, my internal pages are generally PR3's. I looks to me if your page has decent PR, your page should still be on top.

Anyone else have articles they submitted on their site? Where do you rank?
