Articles sent to you via email?

I wanted to start this thread to get everyone's thoughts on it. Over the last few weeks, I've been checking my emails and I have noticed I'm getting a lot of articles sent to me that the sender wants me to add to my website. The problem is, most of these articles do not related to my sites content or theme at all.

Why would a writer want to email an article about investing to a site about digital art? What goal are they trying to achieve by doing that? It seems a waste of time to me. Do any of you guys do this? Can you explain to me the purpose of sending an unrelated article to a given site?

It's like the spam email link exchange requests you sometimes recieve.

It's just something a bit newer...

In the old days, people actually knew how to read and would make sure the job was done right. Today, people just splatter their work anywhere. There is no time for reading. Business is done by simply spamming your wares to anyone with a feeding port.

Your site all about the technical advancements of television? You should feature my article on baking the perfect brownie. :D

I see. Just a new way of spamming. What a bunch of morons. With all the time and energy they waste emailing me an article that is unrelated to my site, why don't they just go to article submission sites and submit their articles there? I bet they are using an automated script of something.

The problem is they DON't waste time and energy! The automated software makes sending to LOTS of sites extremely easy. In fact, it's easier to send to everyone than take the time to thin down the list.

I even saw a post on another forum suggesting it because that way the sender didn't have to wait around for someone to find his article and use it.

    Hi,

It is a big risk which I will not involve myself in.
Sending out emails to people that did not request it, which you do not know
    can lead to SPAM complaints.

There are other methods and the one I will use will be posting articles using
an articles sumbission software. Safer method...

Actually, the people are most likely using a submission program or service.

Digging around in the archives are we? :D
