I havent yet tried disseminating any articles myself yet but i keep hearing about this as a good way to boost in bound links. But then it occurs to me... When i add someone else's article to my site, it typically gets ignored by google - i can only assume this is because of duplicate content. Since the page with the article isnt indexing, the link to the article author's site doesnt count does it? So how can that boost his incoming links? Any with article experience, i'd like to hear your feedback...thx
Oh, it's getting indexed, it's just (usually) not going to rank higher then the original posting of the article. I've submitted several articles and using the anchor text within the article, have sites in the top of all 3 major search engines because of only 1 article. It's an effective way to get incoming links and should be used within your arsenal of "incoming generating" methods.
Yeah I agree with that. But what would happen if someone wrote an article, which wasn't indexed by Google and someone copied the article and was indexed before Google. That would be a serious flaw with their search engine and there probably is no solution for that problem.
They arent indexing...that my point. a new site i am workin on has only seven pages indexed so far. The only pages that arent indexed are the pages where i posted other people's articles. So, since those pages arent indexed, the links to the author's site doesnt count right? Which means that doing articles isnt a great way to get incoming links. Yes?
Here's my thought. I've been thinking about this for a while now. Google seems to be trying to keep SEO people on their toes. From some things that I've been reading Google doesn't like people to be able to manipulate sites rankings. Read this and you will be smelling what I'm stepping in: http://www.wildfiremarketinggroup.com/blog/index.php/2005/06/26/title I beleive in the future (maybe far future) Google is going to slam those who's BLs are only coming from those gigantic link pages with the cookie cutter Keyword stuffed titles with a description following. I even think that BLs from directories will eventually lose it's value because who actually uses directories for their intended purpose? I go to search engines to search for things. I only use directories for SEO purposes. My theory may be far fetched, but I don't know. According to the above article Google is able to tell what keyword is being used and what words surround the keyword. If you or someone else write an article about your site in a blog related to your site with keywords linked back to your site in the article, I personally think that BL should be more valuable than a BL on a cluttered link page. Many link pages on sites are only there so the site owner can trade links and not to offer their visitors a site they will truly be interested in visiting. Think about it. Even if only the BLs in your original article had value I believe it's value would be greater than that of a link trade, a one way link on a link page, and in many cases a directory listing unless it's a sweet directory. I could be wrong.
I agree with what you are saying blonde jon. What i am asking for, i guess, is someone who has had some experience writing articles for BLs. How effective is it? Do only some of the pages where your article is posted get indexed? Do the links on pages that are not indexed still count? Those are the questions i want answers to. Perhaps i should just write a couple articles and see what happens.
It IS a serious flaw. That's what G is trying to work on. Who knows if they'll ever get to that level. They're trying though, with G Sitemaps, G Base, etc... trying to be the first to index the original document. Right. It just means your site isn't fully indexed yet. Maybe you need to work on the quality of backlinks you have/are getting. Wrong That's because you know about SEO and have a site and you're trying to rank it in the SE's, etc... Ask your Grandma or someone over 40 why they'd use a targeted niche directory. I'm sure they wouldn't say, "These are site owners trying to get high rankings in the search engines. The sites in this directory are of no value to me". I answered you in my initial post. I've marketed several sites successfully. Yes, you should. Experience is always the best teacher.
They are? It seems pretty complicating and would most likely still have some flaws...Maybe they should create an article submission center, I don't know...
