Here is a variety of highly qualified articles for you all that are wondering why:

    1) Your SEO firm got your penalized
    2) Your rankings and traffic went to Zero
    3) Your software you bought isn't working anymore / got you penalized

I have listed 3 main sources here:

SEOMoz.org - the undisputed thought leaders in SEO - this particular post is about how ONE sitewide anchor can be the tipping point between ranking and not ranking

TheHoth.com - one of the most popular automated link building software programs on the internet - and their own, unbiased research of their own product and what to do to repair the damage already done.

SearchEngineLand.com - Danny Sullivan's team pitches how great Google is a little too much for me - I think reading the comments here is more insightful

I hope you find these read helpful. It does for us. Remember, whether you are buying links, paying someone offshore to do it, submit hundreds of directories every year, or simply wait for your content to be found. If you do not control your anchors and make sure that you aren't 'gaming the system' by going after 'money keywords' like "cheap viagra" >>> then you WILL feel the pain.

Lastly, I hope that you all will also post helpful articles for what off-page SEO brings in 2013!

Nice post and resources indeed, But i believe that (SEO in 2013) changed it in a way that running behind 1-2 legitimate strategies are not going to work. The best way to follow all the eight methods stated above but i would suggest to focus more on the first one.

    What you think !
