    Hi ALL,

I need you to clear smth up for me.

There is something strange when I'm searching keywords that I'm trying to rank for in the Google search box. I wrote the keyword and I saw myself on 6th spot (1st page), then I wrote that keyword 4-5 more times that day, still 6th spot. Today I wrote the keyword like 10 times as well as I've opened my article a couple of times and I suddenly end up on 1st spot on Google after the 9-10th search. I didn't think that this was reliable so I asked my friend to search for that keyword, he said that I'm nowhere. After that I asked another friend that had opened my article 3-4 times in the last 1 or 2 days , he said I'm on 6th spot. Then I cleared my cookies and search for the term again and guess what - my article is not even in the first 3 pages. Maybe this is silly, but the more you search for the particular keyword and the more you're opening your or any other article, Google thinks that your in need of that and end up putting it on first spot for that particular keyword. That's why I need to clear my cookies every time I want to check the reliable ranking of my articles/landing pages. What do you think??? I'm confused:confused:

Please don't laugh when your reading this :D

    Thanks

It's called the google dance, it's a dances with wolves approach and you just got danced off, also could have been due to the new caffiene update

    It happens, keep truckin'.

You wouldn't by any chance actually have something else to do then just sit and wait? Start building back-links and you'll be in the number one position soon enough. Also, Google can track your IP as well as cookies. So clearing cookies isn't the "single" solution.

Keep working on building links, you should wait for at least one month to see the real ranking..

    It happens all the time.

Try to rank more than one article for one keyword (whenever you target one keyword - write 5 - 10 articles around that specific keyword not just one) and submit your articles to 10 different articles directories.

Google remembers your search and what you clicked on and will rank that site at the top. It's called the personalized search results.

If you just log out of your Google account when you do the search, you will see where the article is really ranking at.

By the sound of it though, your article is not ranking on the first page but rather Google was just showing it there because they know you have visited that exact article a bunch of times. Same thing happened with your friend who has viewed the article a few times.

The Google dance that everyone else is talking about doesn't apply here. That's when you're building links and Google is trying to figure out where to rank your article/site. In this case though, it's already ranking where it wants to be but you're seeing it at a higher position because you've visited the article so many times.

Make sure when checking the rankings of your articles you are completely signed out of Google and you won't have this problem.

Just keep linkbuilding and it will move up for good.

Except Mr. J no one has answered this question correctly. Its not a google dance or anything else beside Google Personalized Search for everyone. Check over here..http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2009/12/personalized-search-for-everyone.html

Previously only logged in google account users were having this facility now its public. So when ever you want to check your serp then clear your cookies first and then check it. Or you can add &pws=0 to the end of the URL for non personalized search.

    I hope that helps.. :)

    @Robert25

I didn't quite understand what he asked in the first place but you're right :)

    That's Google's personalized search..

Once you delete your cookies your website will no longer show on the first page :)

    Hahha funny :)

    Keep it up mate :)

I remember seeing one of my aff. sites two years ago on the first page of google for a top keyword (with roughly 100,000 searches per month)

I was about to bang my head against the wall and still wouldn't believe it :)

But guys again, DELETE your cookies and do a second search.

I agree with everyone here as well... But you shouldn't be checking your site so much. SEO is not something that happens overnight (with exception to new sites/articles - and that's only short term)

To get your site to stay up there and stick it's going to take some time, and a lot of IBL.

Additionally I "believe" that G may be using the bounce rate for rankings as well. So if you're countinuously checking your rankings than that "could" be another factor that's causing your article to "google dance."

    Just remember

    - the age of your article,
    - plus age of your links,
    - in addition to the quality of your links
    - as well as the quality of your content could all be factors to consider as well (and of course there are many other factors)...

Like I said earlier though... Don't get so upset about your article appearing and disappearing.

    With SEO... It happens.

The sooner you get use to that FACT the better...

    Good luck...

You don't even have to clear your cookies.
Do a google search, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on "view customizations"
On the next page click "without these improvements" and it will show you a neutral search.
