How many of you guys write articles to promote your websites? and what has been your experiences with them? I personally think that it is one of the best ways to market, but would also want to hear from you which softwares you use for that, if any (I favour 4 specific ones).

I've wrote a post in my blog about article marketing:

    http://mystic-pandemonium.blogspot.com/2007/01/writing-articles.html

I just want to know if you guys have got good results with other directories not listed in my post...

Article writing can work for all types of sites, but I would assum it would work even better for sites that are product oriented or promoting affiliate links. The articles would be used to promote such sites better than a content site. However, I know people also use article marketing as a way of driving a bit of traffic to their content sites but even more so in the hope oof boosting their seqarch engine rankings by using specific keywords in the links that onbe is allowed to have in the signatrure.

Article writing can be very effective for promoting
web pages of all kinds, especially since you can
write keyword optimized articles that get indexed
very quickly, allowing you to grab traffic before your
    site gets indexed.

Also, it builds up a nice collection of relevent backlinks

Article marketing is a great tool to promote prodcuts. You will also get decent traffic (approx. 1/3 of what you get from organic search traffic) to your site as well.

    In my opinion:

SEM is the best (given that you know how to use it) followed by article marketing. The more you write, the more products you can sell (or the more traffic you will get).

Yea, it is good for relevant backlink as well. I have a new site doing nothing but article submission got indexed and ranked #3 for a keyword with 1x,xxx search (overture) and 3M competition.

But I think article marketing works better withe affiliate product than adsense site (or for SEO).

I have done pretty well with articles, and even the crappy ones when I first started out, are even getting picked up.

However, it is best to write a really good article and submit it to the big high rank/traffic article directories.

I did mine the old fashioned way by hand to about 12 directories...

Now they have gotten me hundreds of back links from pages I never heard about!

Good content will get you Everywhere!

    - article marketing is one of the best online tool to promote your online business : traffic and backlinks.
    - the most important that you choose the website and article directories where you will submit them. it's no point to submit to all directories because there are just fewer article directories that have more value.
    - avoid to submit many articles a the same time because that can considerate as a spam ( when you have 2000 backlinks in just one week)
submit article to directories should be slowly and after that indexed by search engine in your website.
    - I build now a lens about artcile marketing and I will collect many resources related to article marketing

    ::sigh:::

Times have changed with Article Submission and it depends "Where" your submitting the articles to. Free article directories and places like this is a complete waste. Just because you see your traffic increase a bit and a some backlinks doesn't mean its working. The backlinks are in most cases worthless (since they hold no weight) and the traffic is from others looking for free articles (worthless traffic). The real way to tell if it is a success is to sell a product and see if your sales increase, they won't.

Three years ago I would have said article submission helps with backlinks and SE rankings, but not anymore times have changed.

Now submitting articles to websites that are targeted to your website is another story. If you submit a gardening article to a popular gardening site, then it will work. But these generic article sites or generic directories, not a chance.

Its been tested and proved over and over again... Keep the content on your own site or submit one article to a decent site not hundreds of useless sites.

Thanks for the replies guys! especially manager2006 and constantcontent....

I think you are absolutely right about that... I'm doing a research now to find out the few good directories or better yet, ezines that have some decent no. of subscribers and that accept articles from us to publish... it's no use submitting here and there.... we have to find these gems even if with trial and error...

Article submission is my personal choice of promoting my site.

Yes, I'll have to agree that I've learned from trial and error that submitting your articles to tons and tons of article directories is sort of a waste of time and effort. Now I only submit to a few, high quality and high traffic ones. Also I vary the article I submit to each directory. Right now I'm thinking about possibly submitting my articles to ezines and newsletters...if they'll publish it for free that is.

This is the best advice in this thread. Writing unique articles for other webmasters working in your niche is a very powerful technique. Provides one way links and can supply some traffic. Best part is, it does it from a related site (very important).

First start with an article... Write a good article first and worry about the SEO after. You can always change around the article after the concept and article is complete. Don't start off writing a keyword optimized article becasue it won't read well.

Many of our customers purchase articles, then change words and sentences for better keyword optimization. The key is having a good article that has contains a beginning, middle, and end, with an introduction and conclusion.

I have been writing articles for a while, and I know they can help a lot with your wedsite, specially if the content is interesting and related to whatever you are offering.

Update... I negotiated with a couple of Ezine publishers, who have large numbers of subscribers, to publish an article I wrote in their next issue ;)... I'm trying this method to discover useful ezines to market our articles to. I'm also researching good ezines with a good no. of subscribers.
