Calvin Klein is one brand which needs no introduction when it comes to fragrances and perfumes. It has more than 70 perfumes to its credit, launched in different years right since the inception of the brand. Contradiction, Crave and Escape are considered to be the brand’s three most popular perfumes. Contradiction was launched in 1998 with the idea of the urban woman in mind. Calvin Klein believes in being in sync with the current times and trends, and often launches something with a theme in mind. Contradiction was one of those launches, which had a nice floral fragrance of rose, jasmine and peony. Eucalyptus and pear blossom were used in the middle notes of this perfume designed by Ann Gottlieb.

Escape on the other hand was launched in 1991 with the idea of a romantic perfume in mind. It had a small hint of marine scent, with the mixture mainly comprising of apple, plum, peach, rose, mandarine and lychee. In 1993, the Escape male version was launched, with the same idea of a romantic perfume in mind. Steve Demercado designed this perfume with melon, grapefruit and mango along with other elements in the top notes, amber and sandalwood at the bottom notes, and rosemary and fir being in the middle notes. There were other sensual elements also used to add to the fragrance.

Quite contradictory to Escape, Crave for men was launched in 2002 with the concept of freshness. Many men have claimed to have used it during their teens where they liked the fresh feel that the perfume let off. The top notes in this perfume consist of starfish and bergamot.

Keeping in mind the seduction front, Euphoria was launched in 2005. It was a mix of floral as well as fruity elements, and there was an exotic feel to it. A limited edition was created by the name of Euphoria Crystalline in 2007. Till date, Euphoria and Obsession are considered to be CK’s most seductive perfumes, meant especially for the special night. Obsession though is slightly older, and was launched in 1985, with an oriental spicy feel to it. Jean Guichard designed this perfume with elements of orange, vanilla, peach and basil being on the top notes. Secret Obsession which was launched for women in 2008 had plum in the top notes and Egyptian Jasmine in the middle notes. Eva Mendes did bold, sexual and seductive print as well electronic campaigns for this ad.

The current buzz in the fashion world is being made by none other than Beauty, which is CK’s nee perfume scheduled to be launched in October 2010. It has mainly been designed to signify pure beauty, with no seduction or other elements in mind. In fact, it is meant to complement the clothes that CK has. It is said that this perfume is ideal for a woman in her 40s, who denotes timeless beauty, sophistication and maturity. Created by Sophie Labbe, Beauty has a cedar-base with jasmine and ambrette seed in the top notes. Windows 7 update ready for test from Microsoft.

Windows 7 updates unveiled

Even though much of Microsoft’s spotlight at its partner conference in the capital the cloud, majority of its product announcement was on on-premises software with the likes of Windows OS and Windows Servers. On day one of its Annual Partners Conference, the software giant was scheduled to illustrate among other things, the beta of Service pack 1. This was for both Windows 7 and Windows 2008 Server R2. There are no major updates for Windows 7; just minor detail made up of previous bug fixes and other minor tweaks. On the Server’s side, added features are around visualization. Earlier in the month of June, Microsoft had said that it would release the beta versions of the service packs this month (July).

Small Business Servers Updated

Still at the conference, Microsoft displayed earlier versions of two servers which were aimed entirely at small businesses. One among the pair, code named the Small Business Server 7, is an update to the subsistence Small Business Server product. This was a combination of Exchange Server and Windows Server and various other products put together into a single server software bundle. The second product, having the code-name Aurora, is intended to lend a hand to small businesses to balance work between their cloud-based services and their own hardware. It will also allow businesses with up to 25 PCs to carry out file-and-print server tasks locally and at the same time link to Microsoft online services for services such as e-mail and portal software. Microsoft has otherwise declined to state the exact date to expect the final versions of either product.

CRM 2011

Microsoft gave detailed plans for an upcoming version of its Customer Relationship Management software, running locally and be will be available only in hosted form. An online version of Microsoft’s CRM 2011 has also been stated for release this coming September. This will be followed by the release of a software only product. The extensive use of Ribbon interface within outlook is just one of the new features expected. The addition of a Dynamic Marketplace from Microsoft is aimed at helping draw attention to a range of third party services.

In the mean time, Microsoft is in the discussion process of an Azure appliance. This will allow large customers and partners run Microsoft’s cloud-based operating system around their personal data centres.

Microsoft announced its intention to expand availability of the online service version to eight more markets by the end of the year 2010. This will bring the total figure of its country Markets in which the hosted service is available to 40. The new countries are: Trinidad and Tobago, Peru, Chile, Cyprus, Costa Rica, Columbia, Brazil and Australia.
