    The Recession and Internet Marketing
It's time for a reality check.
    by Brian Rooney

I know the media here in the US is going crazy with talk about a recession. But it may help to remember that the news media makes more money when the news is bad and these media companies are profit driven just like any other business on the planet.

    Do yourself a favor:

Turn off that ridiculous news channel and read some articles on marketing.

Here's the "reality": The media has NO clue what is really going on. They're guessing and their job, overall, is to predict the worst possible scenario.

Folks are running around in panic mode because of their FEAR of what the media says is coming. But these folks forget that within the space of 1 week, the same news channel will broadcast on Monday that we're in a recession; Tuesday, they come back and say, "Well ... it may not be that bad after all."; then on Wednesday, they are talking about the possibility of a full-blown Depression.

So let's look at some actual facts about the Depression of the 1930's. (Note: I'm no economics wizard. I dropped out of college during my first semester. I recognize that there are people with degrees that will take exception to what I'm about to say so let me be clear that these are my own thoughts and I stand by them personally.)

Yes... The Depression was a challenging time. The economy in America went through massive changes. The overall "doom and gloom" have been well documented so I won't go in to all of that here.

But do you realize that one of our nations most monumental achievements was also accomplished during the Depression? That achievement: Hoover Dam.

The actual cost of Hoover Dam, the All-American Canal, the town of Boulder City, highways, railroads and various other works was $165 million. And that was the total in the 1930's. Can you imagine what that amount would be in today's dollars?

Change is inevitable. Life changes. Business changes. The economy changes.

What you do NOT want to do is give in to the fear associated with change.

Salt used to be a form of currency many many years ago.

Today, we sprinkle it on our food for flavor!

Can you imagine the fear that must have been present when people started sprinkling the money of the day on their steaks!?!?

The economy during the Depression was more industrial, based on manufacturing.

Today, the economy is much more diversified.

The Internet gives us a massive advantage today as compared to the 1930's.

Internet Marketing gives you access to a worldwide market of billions of possible customers. If the economy in one particular company struggles, you can focus your marketing on other countries.

Using the Internet for your marketing dramatically reduces the cost of reaching your market.

The Internet makes it easier to release new products and services quickly.

The Internet makes it easier to identify and respond to new opportunities.

This is not a time for fear. This is a time to be alert, awake, and looking for opportunities presented by changing times. And above all else, this is a time to be positive and BELIEVING that you are going to prosper.

I personally believe that fortunes will be made by those that are staying positive and adapting to the market situations. I also believe that those who live in fear will create a self-fulfilling prophecy of lack and loss.

    The choice is ours.

From a purely business perspective, Internet Marketers are in a unique position to benefit as they have the ability to shift their focus to countries and consumers that are in a position to benefit from their offers.

This is not a time for fear. This is a season of opportunity!

Embrace that opportunity in your business and in your life!

    Hi Brian,:)

Excellent thread. I agree with you wholeheartedly.

What concerns to the media you do pointed out right that the best scenario for the media is the bad news. At what worse, at it right, because of curiosity. They want to make profit. And made it from this.

When I learned the writing decades ago, I had a mentor who teached us what is the essence in the writing:

"Who? What? When? Where? Why?" - if I'm not mistaken.

"It is not news that the dog bit the postman. It is the news if the postman bit the dog.";)

Putting the humour aside, thanks God we are living in modern ages and the Internet give us endless possibilities.

We need to stop the crying together with the media. We must to grab that possibilities and profit from them. The alarm clock rings, is time to hear it.

    Thanks for this great read.

    Cheers,

    Sandor

There are definitely some markets that are flourishing during this economic time.

Email Marketing is doing quite well.
Coupon services are doing quite well.
