So far Since Jan 1 of this year, I have submitted 20 articles to around 50 sites each - Results so far: Maybe a very little increase in traffic. PR is same as it was before. If articles really bring traffic, it must takes months for them to start working.

In otherwords, a lot of time, hours has been spent with really almost no results shown. Maybe articles take months before results are shown ? Any pro's care to comment on this ?

I try and write at least 10 articles per week but ensure they are indexed on my website first. I then submit abridged versions of these articles to as many directories as possible using the ArticleMarketer.com service.

Article submission is a long term method of building links. You need to allow time for all the articles to be indexed by the search engines and even longer for your links to show up in google.

I normally see the articles picked up over 100 times in MSN within a few days but you won't get links that quickly.

Welshbeef has a good strategy and one I would follow as well.

Mad4 is correct in saying MSN is the fastest for the articles getting indexed, but keep at it and be patient, Google likes these links, especially from the larger article websites and will reward you in due course.

Traffic generation from most article directories is pretty slim. You want to look for sites that a) accept articles and b) include the best articles in a weekly/monthly newsletter. For example, when I get an article picked up by searchenginewatch, site reference, webpronews, etc, and they publish it in a newsletter, I see a huge increase in traffic.

I agree with Tim. I've distributed hundreds of articles and directories always produce less traffic. I think the best routine is to submit to newsgroups, directories and individual sites and e-zines that are looking for your topic.

Many directories and sites only allow you to submit two articles a week so that would be a good way to start.

Oh, I submit to every site I can, but if I'm looking for traffic, I make sure to submit to the types of sites mentioned above. I use article for SEO purposes as well as traffic generation, so every article directory is worthwhile to me.

    It really depends

In most cases, there is no increase in the inflow

But, it really boils down to your strategy

I have outline a practical approach below - you can apply it if you want

    Put It On Your Website

Search Engines love, if you have articles in your website. They are constantly checking for fresh content and our job is to give it to them. Adding your new articles as you write them is great because they are loaded with keyword content that relates to your website and helps improve your popularity with search engines.

Put a subscribe box on every page of the site. Experts advise putting a simple sign up box (with freebie mentioned) in the top left hand corner, as that's where the eye naturally travels first. A simple sign up box that requests email address works best.

    Trade With Other Websites
Ad swaps. Exchange plugs for your ezine with another website, to run in each other's ezines. Offer to post their article on your article page in exchange for adding your article to theirs. Be sure to mention those freebies! Doing this on a regular basis with a rotating selection of web partners will keep your subscription page busy.

Allow any newsletter that wants to reprint your articles do so. But don't forget to include - You may reprint this article in your own ezine or website. Simply send an email requesting permission to EMAIL ADDRESS. (Please be sure to include our full bio box at the end)

Set up an autoresponder, say http://www.aweber.com/?205130 and load your first message with an offer to trade ads and articles. Set a goal to add 5 publishers a day.

Add publishers of the ezines you have subscribed to. Then subscribe to more. Keep adding publisher’s everyday to your autoresponder. Whenever you write an article shoot it out to everyone in your autoresponder. In a year's time you could easily have over hundreds, if not thousands of publishers hearing from you about your new article

You could allow e-zine publishers to publish your articles in their free e-books. Since people give them away, your advertising could multiply all over the Internet. You can brand your web site and business by submitting articles to e-zines. You could include your name, business name, your credentials, web site address and e-mail address in your resource box.

You'll get your article published all over the web when you submit it to an e-zine publisher that has a free content directory on their web site. They'll allow their visitors to republish your article. How about finding other ezine publishers that would run an article of yours in their ezine in exchange for you running their article in yours.

Run a few ads in an ad group at MyWizardAds: offers: snurl.com/ufs
Or here with 2 Bucks An Ad: team-schuman.com

If money is an issue for you and you have time then just start contacting ezine publishers and article directories one at a time and offer your article.

Visit the below link for a list of article directories.

Start submitting your articles to the directories and to other ezine publishers.

    http://www.marketingaffiliater.com/free-articles/article-submission-directories.html

Of course there are sites like
    http://www.submityourarticle.com/main.php
for which you have to pay a sum of around 40 bucks a month - try it out - They have received good reviews.

Basically writing 1 to 2 or even 3 articles, with a full time job, is fun.
Submitting to over 150 plus directories - ummm...somewhat okay

So, if you are really into article marketing, go for prewritten articles,
This comes with an article database, of around 200 Prewritten, Rebrandable, Rewritable, Viral Business Articles.
    http://hop.clickbank.net/?ditto20/vatool

    AND
    Submit them using an Automatic Article Submitter;
    http://ditto20.click126.hop.clickbank.net
This one, automatically submits your articles to directory sites

    Basically, they really move.

If you write for the joy of writing, just remember, what is the point in writing great articles, when you get neither response nor recognition that it deserves….

    Bye for now

It really depends where your articles are submitted and what sites pick them up. Sometimes you could get a nice little flow of increased traffic from some articles and hardly none from others.

The main benefit of article writing would be increasing your link popularity I guess.

The thing is to find a directory that aggressively promotes their directory

We write articles about our directory and send them out every day , we write alot of press releases and we are constantly looking to get listed on other high ranking sites as well as getting people to send info to their lists.

Our Directories ARE A FULL TIME BUSINESS for us and are always for them to do better and to get the articles submmitted found .... We take your articles serious .. with out your success we will have no success

To give you an Idea of the amount of promotions we have done since the major launch of a couple of our sites look here

It seems to me that the best reason to write articles is to provide fresh contnet to your own website.

This will help to develop the depth of information and your expertise on your subject(s).

Article submission to other sites would be a secondary step.

My point being that it seems most likely that you would get better ranking from the article that is on your own site than when it is posted on someone elses ( I am not forgetting about the IBLs created from other websites or the potential traffic from thier visitors, that is real. But, it seems, from the posts here, that that isn't super productive).

One of the things that impresses me the most is when i see the same person popping up in various newsletters.

If you could get other people to publish your content in thier newsletters, that seems like it would be the best way. Probably setting up an affilliate package with them would get you into some of the best positions to produce inbound traffic.

I have had one of my sites mentioned in a newsletter. Not because of my article, but because of my articles directory. I had a nice little steady flow of traffic from that source, which lasted a few months.

It was nice while it lasted.
