Hello all - newbie, but thanks to many here, gaining an education. I'd like the community's opinion - between creating original content on an article directory, or creating a new page on one's own website, content rich and optimized - any thoughts on which tends to be more pleasing to the crawlers? Many thanks, Paul
pale - ideally, what I am after is creating substantive information, and aiding my site to get it higher in the ranking - to make money, but also to promulgate some info which may be of help to people. I am in this for the long haul. My aim, hopefully, is that what I write will benefit people, and if posting an article offsite benefits "outsiders" who then come to my site, and, I get a link; or, if by creating another page on my site, it adds to the content of my site, benefits those who've come to me, and pleases the spidies; either way, I would see it as some substantive information for interested folks. So, all else being equal - when either way will be about creating substantive content - any thoughts on which method tends to help better with 'bot crawling/seo?
Yes, submitting to article directories is great for getting relevant backlinks but you should also have good content on your site so that it ranks highly for the keywords you are targeting. SEO is about lots of factors all working together rather than one thing in particular.
How about this situation - the article, on stillhunting technique, is related to my website (an outdoor sports portal), but "stillhunting technique" is not searched very often. Optimizing for this keyword, I would think, is almost meaningless (except for the 47 who looked the term up last month). Still, I would like people to see the page - would putting it on my site aid my site, and bring people to the page, better than putting it offsite, gaining a link in the process? Maybe this is utterly conjecture, and not worth the time - just curious if people have thoughs, one way or the other. I guess it just seems like information is information - it will aid somebody. So, how to best aid my site in the process?
You should consider putting the info up on your site AND submitting it to article directories. You should not receive a duplicate content penalty and you will be able to get the best of both worlds.
apblake - I thought of this, but can you tell me - how would it not be a duplicate content penalty? If this is so, I write all the time - and would love to post in both places as a matter of course..
I dont beleive the duplicate content thing that much. Take for example www.motorola-razr.com His content is ripped straight from the manufacturers website word for word. True his PR isnt high, but he is consistently between 8-15 on the major search engines, and his website is only 3 mos old
I'd recommend adding keyword rich contents to your site and then goin' for submittin' to articles sites. this way you can more effectively abd better target keywords and with every article added your site will become stronger.
In my opinion, having that article in your site and submitting it to article directories wouldn't get you duplicate content penalty since SEs understand the nature of articles and what they bring to websites the only thing the SEs will probably do in case they find you with the dup content is filter out the duplicates when they show them in serps so that we searchers/visitors don't see the same thing over and over and over and over again. hey i think i said that before hmm.. deja vu? anyways, that's just what i think
I just wrote up a blog entry on duplicate content.. http://formsofshadows.blogspot.com/ it might come in helpful. If you write an article about a topic..and submit it to article directories..you gain a few benefits..besides link traffic. You are advertising the "theme" of your site: Boost your credibility and begin to be known by your prospects before they even visit your web site. You become known as an knowledgeable resource for that area. Push Traffic to Your Website via embedded and resource box links. Your prospects are pre-sold, when they come to your site they will feel they know you, through your targeted articles thus you will experience a higher conversion rate and more adsence revenue from creating traffic. You need validate good solid content within your site with a good keyword base to attract webcrawlers and to keep your site bookmarked for continuos return visits from people interested in your "niche" So the answer I would say is...Do both! If you can write..do it and do both. It is worth the time you spend behind the pen ~Corena
just put the article on your site and submit it to article sites. You have good content on your site and you get links to your site. Win, win.
Many thanks, all. Corena, read your article - thanks for the link and the information there, as well. All, quite helpful! Paul
Here's a different and contrary viewpoint - I do see many links, now, from duplicate pages of my recent article on the web. The following: http://www.blog.website-development-training.com/archives/2005/09/19/duplicate/ Seems to feel this is a problem - and will lead to dup content penalty (and possibly banning). Hmm. Paul
If you look at it from that point of veiw then article sites should be useless. There are hundred of sites that allow you to use articles as long as the link is left on the article. If you write an article and many sites pick your article up..a surfer may see your article many many times..on other sites..does this frustrate a person..no this leads the surfer to use the link associated with that article..because if you are quoted on that many sites.... then why not go to the source! That is why you would want to place fresh content on your site. That is why "Boost your credibility and begin to be known by your prospects before they even visit your web site. You become known as an knowledgeable resource for that area" is important. If your "niche" is the only article out there and is picked up way too much then Google may find a problem...but most keywords are written on extensively..and there are millions of sites and hundreds of article content sites..so the numbers are usually very minimal. That is why I original said and still stand by my advice..do both. ~Corena..
