    1. Do you recommend it?
Yes, you can get both exposure and link back altogether. Depends on your articles quality.

    2. What's the best software out there?
I do not recommended software. I suggest you do this manually for better results.

    3. How many article websites should you submit the same article too?
That's ok. However, not all of them would be shown as backlink. Just some of them due to duplication filter.

    4. And finally how many articles websites should you submit to per month?
There are hundreds out there. You can submit as many as you wanted but please do not fotget ezinearticles.com, isnare.com, goarticles.com

Its only worth it if you are struggling to get backlinks, they are low quality and drive very little traffic.

I did a few a couple years back. There still circulating. I'd only submit to 4 - 5 places. They are like a disease, they spread all over to different article sites and MFA sites and kinda show up everywhere. Really depends on the topic though. I did one on global warming recently, and its been really slow to get going. The one I did on dating, has spread like wild fire. The bikini articles spread pretty fast too. If I could turn back time, I'd do it again I suppose. Matter of fact, I should start doing more in the future. Good luck...

Article submission is great for building backlinks and getting your site spidered regularly
Submit an article every week, to few trusted high PR article sites
Dont submit with some automated stuff and also it doesn't make any point to submit it to 100s of sites and not knowing whether they have admitted your article or not
select around 10 sites and regularly submit to them, the article sites generally approve authors who submit regularly much quicker than those irregular or automated bots
