I read in a couple of posts here in dp or in some other sites that using the same article to submit to a number of article directories is useless. Is that so? I mean do i have to write a fresh article for each directory submission?

agree with templates, but still it is not worth less to submit same article to more directory, it definitely help to increase link popularity of your website. i would like to suggest you to write unique article only for good and leading article directory..where as use same article to small or average article directory. that will be good option.
I've found good results submitting the same article across multiple sites, but unique content will always be better. Just have to work out whether it's worth your time or not. I've found its not.
get a freelancer to make 10 articles to submit to 10 different sites, that way you don't get the duplicate conent issue and still get link juice...
I have done article submission and the only thing that matters is that you must not exceed of submitting the same article in no more than 100 sites. Get an fresh article once you have achieved the target number of article submission sites.
You can get some traffic plus some back links via article submission. I suggest you only submit to high quality article directories.
Yes that's correct get the Quality content and first also upload this articles in your site which you are going to publish in other article directories. You can submit in some 50 to 60 quality directories with your targeted keywords and your site URL. Thanks John

technically its duplicate content to submit the same articles in many sites but you for all you know only one site will get spidered for your article

How is it not "useless" if Googles algo only gives you 1 link if duplicate content is detected. It is surely a complete waste of time to submit 1 article to 100 directories or spin it into "B*llsh*t" and represent yourself a 1) a Spammer 2) an idiot. The internet is full of garbage already. Write high quality content that means something to people not rubbish x 100.
Hello Mark Hamilton Agree Mark. The only thing that matter is what Google is thinking and what their policy and procedures are!! The only thing I know is that blogger (owned by Google) cancelled one of my threads (url) as the last item I added was a week old or two week old article and Hubpagesdotcom is only accepting original articles. If I am wrong would someone let me know. Does anyone know what is happening with articles added for the 2nd time to a website. What happens to the website?? Does the website get a lower page ranking , etc ?? Respectfully David
Free article directories are in many numbers, if you write unique article for every directory this is very good for your site SERP and PR but this is very very time consuming work according to result.
So what is the technical answer or are these random guesses and opinions based on how your potential clients will perceive the services you offer on this forum? Which is likely to be most effective to your SERP ? 1)1 article to 100 directories or 2) 100 unique articles to 100 directories (1 each) I guess all we have is opinion ? or is there a Yes/No answer or more accurately a 1 or 2 answer?
For a weak query 1 article to 100 directories be good. But for a query with a large attendance and competition need high quality links. And the weight(pr) of links in articles with bad content or non-unique can be underestimated. If you have unique article you can submit it in my site itext.net
