Article submission for link building , EFFECTIVE ???

    I never tried article submission as a process of link building. But I have a question, taking articles from directories and posting elsewhere in many other sites or blogs make it duplicate content and many people say it's of no use for publishers because search engines will find it as duplicate content - then how much link building is possible through article submission?

    article requires to be edited before submitting to different article directories , donot submit the same article to more than 1 directory without editing
