yeah...i totally agree with you..articles submission is a time wasting process of getting backlinks and good traffics..I am submitting articles more than 20 articles from different sites.. and urghh...i got irritated because i can't do my another work because of it..
I find it very effective. But I think you have to do your share of promoting of you articles. -Write the article -Promote it on your Twitter and Facebook (The more hits it gets the better for the article itself) Also, I find it a lot better to use Goarticles.com because once you submit your article Google crawls the page the very next day or two. I've been doing this for the past month and it's been working great!
What is the proper way to submit articles in article directories? We can submit the copy of our articles or we should write complete fresh content for every directory?

No I dont think so getting low quality links cant effect your SERPs negatively but if you link to low quality sites then it can. If this would be true then it would be very easy to beat your competition you can easily make some worst sites on the net and then link back to your competition. But this not true because building a good site takes a lot of hard work and time but building a low quality site is very easy.
Well I dont think that article marketing is a waste of time, SEO always takes some time and article marketing is a part of SEO. In return of all the time you have spent in article writing and submission you get loads and loads links and traffic. But remember that every article is not a success your article should be of high quality and informative to get high amount of traffic and links. But if you still feel article writing and submission takes most of your time you do have an option of hiring a professional for it.
Use seo for firefox plugins..once you install it..check the links if it's highlighted..It means no-follow..
yeah, i agree with you..you need to hire a professional content writer if you want to have a good traffics and links... CONTENT is KING!
