Is this a practice that us at e-articles.info strictly prohibit by checking for dupes before posting online any articles. No more duplicated content articles! Many other article directories should use this policy although webmasters have to reject approx 85% of daily submissions due to this issue. But it is really useful.

I could match you story for story! What I hate most is, you post articles, than, everbody d/loads them to place on their site, and they cut out your links! But, I still get quite a few links from aricles I did a year or two ago. They spread like a fungus! If you submit an article to 5 article websites, somehow, the other article websites get it too. I'd say my past article submission experience is more positive than negative. Just my 2 cents. Good luck on promoting your sites though...

The important is the first place where Google found the content for the first time. The other are dupes and Google doesn't care about them; they are like unexistent.

I think I will start writing all the contents in my own websites rather than create new and unique one then submit it to directories. In this era (web 2.0), our content is important.
